Spark of Ean'lu
version 1.0

DOWNLOAD MAP
6,8MB

Spark of Ean'lu is an adventure map where the player has to
explore the world, uncover clues, and solve puzzles along
the way to advance the story.

Of the complete four-chapter story, only the first chapter
has been implemented so far. Given enough interest, the plan
is to release updated versions of the map, progressing the
story with each update.

The current version of the map should take ~45-60 minutes
to complete.

Help! I got stuck on the circular lock combination. I suppose its connected to the log that is found next to the little unpowered device, but i can't make it out, how many digits do i need to enter? Or do i have to use the gas before that?

Thanks for trying out the map, and great work making it all the way to that puzzle!

Thanks man! Yes, the recent increase in accessibility of EUD creation opens up for many new opportunities. Can't wait to see what you'll do with it!

Honestly inspiring to see a real Myst-style old school adventure game brought to life. It's something I always wanted to do, and you did an amazing job with the little puzzle panels and writing. Is this an original IP? It feels so polished and cohesive! At times, it felt like I wasn't playing SCBW at all. Anyway, great job with this, and I hope the other parts come soon.

Also, I've been out of loop for a while now, but are there any other big non-Korean EUD map releases out there? I'm curious to see what level we're at right now. I saw a preview of something Oh_Man is working on, and it's also very impressive!

Thanks qPirateKing! I'm a huge fan of your work on Legacy of Haean, so your feedback means a lot!

Yeah, it's an original story. I mapped out the full plot before starting the project, and I'm looking forward to get started on the rest of the chapters in the near future! Myst and other great adventure games of that era were definitely an inspiration.

Hope you're considering coming back to the scene. Like you, I can't wait to see what this "new era", as Oh_Man called it, will bring!

Here is my playthrough.

Had mike issue halfway in so you can't hear my narration unfortunately.

One thing I did want to ask about was the moving platform near the start the Dark Templar goes on. How does that work exactly? Don't think I've ever heard of a way to move a unit by moving something underneath it.

It presents some intruiging opportunities such as having a moving platform like a boat, kind of like this mission from Starcraft 2.

I think the creatures you create should be able to be looked at and interacted with (like petting them or something lol). I think the inventory you can actually make them black instead of greyed out. And maybe you could have vial (empty) and vial (filled with water) especially if you plan on using the vial more in future chapters.

Looking forward to part 2. If you are searching for a checkpoint system so people don't have to replay then check out Tuxedo-Templar's RUSH which uses a checkpoint system where you enter codes. These codes are also used for cheats.

You could also just have at game start:

> New Game
> Continue Game (which then opens submenu)
> Chapter 2
> Chapter 3
> etc.

Hi, just registered and come here to say thanks for the game, i
noticed this game by accident on the battle.net, and really enjoyed it.

Thanks for the hard job, and well done !
I just can't believed that the editor could still be that powerful after so many years !
This is definitively a master piece !

Here is my feedback:

This is essentially a puzzle driven adventure game.

Pros:
-Lots of original ideas
-Smooth, bug-free game play
-Jaw-dropping mechanics & implementation

Cons:
-Linear progression
-Puzzle is difficult to solve; cannot progress after being "stuck" and not knowing what to do.
-Trailer basically revealed everything about the map

Overall this is an excellent representation of an original concept brought to life.

This map is def worth checking out for being "innovative". Great inspirations

I can see how the map maker has the desire to be original with his work.

Pls provide a way for players to "find" the answers by choice as it would make them continue playing rather quitting.

If there is more than one way to progress to the next checkpoint, it would add replay value.

Lifebot is onto something about linear progression. In a puzzle game with linear progression you are just completely stalled in the experience.

A more open progression would mean if you get stuck on one puzzle you could put it aside and work on another puzzle, so you don't get completely stuck.

However this open style can actually INCREASE the difficulty of puzzle solving. The analogy would be if you are working on one jigsaw puzzle, you're trying to fit the pieces together. But then someone dumps two other jigsaw puzzles worth of pieces into your pile. Now you're trying to sort out 3 jigsaw puzzles from one big mess.

Linear gameplay stops this because you're not thinking "hmm does this item I have solve puzzle X or puzzle Y?". Careful game design can mitigate this problem if the player is clearly aware of which items fit which puzzles. Another thing to do is that items are removed from invo once the puzzle in question is solved.

I don't think you should go and redo act 1 or anything, but something to consider for act 2.

I don't think there should be hints, it can be condescending to the player's intelligence if hints start popping up. And also if you solve a puzzle with help from a hint the satisfaction is a lot less. I think a walkthrough guide is best bet - then it's player's choice if they've decided to give up on the puzzle and open the guide.

Thanks for your thoughtful reviews both, your feedback is much appreciated.

My original plan was to release all chapters in one go. With the world fleshed out to accommodate the entire story, a less linear flow would permit the player to cycle between at least two different puzzles/areas. This would allow the player to take a "break" from what they were currently doing if it becomes too frustrating.

On another note I'm happy to announce that the map has received 50 downloads so far! Thanks for playing!

Indeed. It's a great map and we appreciate the time and effort gone into making it.

I understand the importance of releasing everything at once but also the urge to release a playable map with limited content.

Personally, I am all for the latter. Release what you can, and eventually wrap up your craft over time.
