Logo Request

Hey guys, I was looking for a band logo for my band. The name of the band is Meet Me Past Pluto.
We're doing a sort of indie/disco/techno sorta mix at the moment and was looking for a cool logo for the facebook groups profile page and possibly some cool logos we could use in future for an EP front cover or even for printing on to t-shirts.

I was looking to use purple as the main sort of theme, with a colour that'd go well with that for the font. Perhaps yellow?
I was hoping to get a sort of cartoon version of the planet pluto and perhaps some sort of red cross that sorta shows where they're supposed to meet. Sorta just using imagery to play on the name a bit.

If anyone would be interested in giving me and my band a hand it'd be greatly appreciated and they'd definitely receive credit for their work. Since I don't imagine we'd be selling the logo or our first EP, I doubt there will be profit, but assuming we did start making a significant profit off our EP and we were still using the band logo, I'd definitely look at royalties. But again, I will stress the fact I don't imagine we'll be selling the first EP for money, but much rather giving out copies to get our band more recognized.

Currently whilst I work on music with the band our facebook group and myspace don't really have any material on and look very bare, hense why i'm seeking a logo and some sort of theme.

Thanks for anybody that helps :)!

Few images to help:

Are those images to give us an example of the style you are going for? Or what you would prefer us to use? I will give it a try but I never had to consider making something that is "profit" friendly. Are images off of google search usable? What about custom fonts? Someone let me know how that works exactly.

Also image format and image size preferences?

They're examples of the style and colour scheme I'm looking for. Obviously as the artist you get to make decisions on how the colours should go as you probably know more than a silly musician like myself. However, I probably have to stress the fact that using images on Google is probably not accepted since it could one day lead to profit and there's probably copyright laws that can be infringed.

But yeah, go nuts with the font, it'd be really cool to see quite a few different varieties, maybe if you start simple with getting a cartoon planet of pluto drawn up in a few styles, colours and shades and then we can move on to the background once we've found a cool planet style, then bang the font on top to make something real pretty :)?

The font comment was about what kind of font I could actually use that isn't basic. Like fonts from Dafont.com. Can those fonts be used if profit is a possibility? Still I will try and whatever I can come up with I will save a PSD to edit it or to upload so someone else can work on it if they would like.

I'm not exactly sure, you would probably have to do the fonts manually as opposed to downloading the font. Unless the original artist has said you can do so.

Well I'm bored and decided to mess around and give it a shot. Here is what I have come up with so far, its not too great but with pointers for what you want im sure it could come out alright:

The part about the font may be tricky, I also have no idea which fonts can be used in something for profit. I'd probably just end up using any font and etiher drawing over it or applying effects till you can't tell what font it is :P

The planet isn't cartoony enough and I think my example of a background may have been a bit poor, perhaps a space sort of background would be better? I really want as cartoony as possible really, but I do like the little red x.

Would love to see some more suggestions :)!

You have to find a font which is freeware or public domain, though probably public domain.

The planet shape is spot on and the simplicity of it is really good, maybe we could try with blue instead of grey but keep the same gradient? Also, perhaps some craters or something to make it sorta pop out a bit more like the planet from the image provided.

The background is really cool and may look better with a blue planet, but i'm sorta worried it's going to be too twilight and take away from the simplicity of the planet itself, but you're definitely getting there.

Could we try putting the red cross outside of the planet and perhaps a dotted line coming from a corner and going about half way around the planet, as if it's like a comet being pulled into orbit by plutos gravity and leading to the x.
similar to this:

that X is kinda cool too, it fits the cartoony style.
So far you're doing really good and i'm really grateful for this help :)!

Cool, if you could make the dots more visible and more like dashes than dots ( - - - - - x instead of . . . . . . x) and possibly make it only just not touch pluto, rather than overlapping it on the left side like it does.
Also, can we try losing the background and using a plain black background with a few slightly varied in size cartoonish stars?
After that we should be cool to try using fonts.

Like i said on MSN. I suck at cartoons/vectors so heres a draft for a less cartoonish version.

Edit:

The blue-er version.

Edit:

"logo" with a bigger X

Try the spherize filter on this planet once and it might turn out great looking.

MadZombie did all those great images for me and so I am currently using them, but your cartoon planet is starting to look pretty neat too!
Cecil said to use the spherical filter and i'd love to see how that works out, but if you could do some cool text on top of that, I could be close to having several designs

There's only one problem with the logo and that's the fact facebook and myspace hate transparency :/

Back* from the grave

I love the first of MZ's. Solution to transparency hatin' is add a background of your choice ;)
