So I'm using Guncam...

So guys, I'm trying to make the first ever Starcraft UMS Commentary series on Youtube. I'm using the awesome program known as Guncam.

Now, I've gotten everything to work pitch-perfectly, from my video camera (I'll occasionally switch between Guncam footage of the screen and the camera footage of me) and Guncam. I preview the video, find everything to be working, and proceed to export it into an .avi file.

When that finishes, I look at the newly made file and try to watch it with media player. This is what happens.

It says that I do not have the codec that was used to compress the file. I'm not quite sure what that is, but I think that I used the FourCC code. I'm probably wrong, but I don't know any better. I also get a similarly worded message if I try to import it with Windows Movie Maker or try to watch it with another movie-viewing program.

What I'd like, of course, is for someone to tell me how I would fix the file and make it so I'm able to
A: Watch it (Duh)
B: Import it into WMM
and C: Upload to Youtube.

Here is a few additional pictures with the settings I have for Guncam.

I get an error message a few minutes into recording if I use Direct X

Please help

Get VCL and see if that solves it.

I'm clueless. What is this VCL?

VLC, sorry.
The greatest media player of all time.

It still doesn't work, and I'm not sure even if VLC would be able to mix my camera footage audio with the guncam footage.

I've tested VLC with other videos, it works with everything but this one.

Use FFMpeg, see if you can convert that sucker to some other format.

I don't speak computer. I'm 15 for Pete's sake, I hardly know any computer terms or programming. It doesn't seem noob-friendly. I am on http://ffmpeg.org/download.html and its very confusing, I don't know what to download or what to do when I get it.

Mediacoder will transcode that file into anything. WMP can't play the file because it's ginormous. Open it up in gspot to check the codecs, or use MPC/VLC and check the codecs.

WMM is terrible because of its lack of codecs. You might try virtualdub with some plugins.

When downloading programs which only seem to have a tarball or gzip, chances are it's in source format, so you have to find a pre-compiled binary of it.

Good luck with everything--Windows Movie Maker is by far the easiest to make videos with, but unfortunately the quality is terribad, since you can't output stuff properly (you cant put in just any output dimensions, size, bitrate, or combinations of video and audio codecs, and the uncompressed function is often too large to edit or view).

Looking around, I recommend you acquire Adobe Premiere Elements. It seems to be what WMM should have been.

install this codec http://growlersoftware.com/downloads/XviD-1.0.3-20122004.exe

Installed. Now what do I do with it? Should I try to export the video again with XviD selected instead of the FourCC thing?

Yes, and next time you ask something simple, try it out first, then tell us whether or not it worked.

I did try it out, I came back here to edit the post and you just already posted that. It still doesn't work. When I try to play the 43-megabyte file, VLC opens up. I click on Play, and everything on my computer freezes for a second, and then returns to normal. The video doesn't play. Nor does it work in WMM and WMP. Not like I expected it to anyway.

Age isn't an excuse. I'm 15 too.
Try to convert the avi to DivX - if that doesn't work, then try to export the video from guncam directly as a DivX.

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
