Awesome tool. I've searched high and low for something like this. Task list tools like Remember the Milk, Toodledo, Google Tasks, etc. have all come up inadequate.

In a nutshell, I can give you three reasons: Dependencies, task hiding, and exposed searchability. Think about it.
  • With dependencies, you can effectively put away stuff you shouldn't bother worrying about until prerequisite tasks are finished first.
  • Hiding is of course just chronological dependency; putting things away until a certain time has elapsed. Laziness++
  • But most important of all, searchability that allows me to filter, sort, and separate tasks according to the contexts I need is imperative.

I won't even bother trying to sell it more than that if you can't already see its usefulness (except I should also mention it has a really neat API, if you're into that stuff). I just couldn't find another tool that does what this can. And no, I don't work for these people or directly affiliate with them or anything like that. I just fucking love this thing a whole lot.

Only downside, however, is the lack of granularity with chronological control for task due dates. Namely, you cannot specify the specific hour or minute something needs to be done. That's about the only downer for me, though. I wish they could do something about that, at some point.

So yeah. I'd strongly recommend trying it out for at least a few days. Especially if you're looking to do a collaborative project (which this also supports, apparently).

Really neat tool!

I seriously doubt that. Today I'm going to work on populating my list with little stuff, like soundtracks I want to collect, websites I want to visit, and other misc things I want to do at some point. There's always something to do.

I find there's a certain technique to using this to make it useful. Namely, getting your head around actually using dependencies. It takes a bit of work and thought, but it does definitely add up when your task lists otherwise would start to feel like trying to drink from a fire hose. Plus there's a certain de-stressing aspect to chopping your list down to only small handfuls of at a time.

Tip: Try to use 'But first' more often than 'Hide until'. Good practice against procrastination, I find. :P

Seems like you mind spend more time planning to do things than it would take to just go and actually do them :P

I like it. actually I love it. I just wish that it would have a stand alone program to use so I don't forget to check the website when I get side tracked.

Actually, I was looking into a way to do that not too long ago. This is what I came up with: http://bubbleshq.com/

There might also be a way with Windows Sidebar, but I haven't explored too far into that option.

I think the Chrome browser might also be a good way, since each browser window is its own task. I can assume you can customize it to skim off the UI elements for specific pages, and then just make a desktop link for the site. There's probably also a way to make a taskbar icon, too.

Edit: I also use DeskPins to keep the list on top of other windows, if needed.

You. Are. God. :bleh:

Thanks. That is sooo awesome, because I am one who gets side tracked VERY easily so this will be nice.

So how do you think this stacks up against Google Calendar?

I've started using Hiveminder now and its one weakness I've seen in comparison to more traditional to-do lists/calendars is the lack of precision in setting a deadline for a task. I also get SMS reminders on Google Calendar which are incredibly useful - would be nice to see this on Hiveminder but I doubt they have Google's infrastructure.

That said, it has an awful lot going for it. I constantly forget things.

It actually has iCal export, so I believe you could use it with Google Calender (or any other calender service). There are a few other export options as well (including feeds). They're still working on proper two-way import/export, though. They do have an implementation via. a crude, manual text file download/upload thing, however. Also, the API is quite powerful, so I suspect it shouldn't be difficult to fill in the blanks, if one were so-inclined.

I have no information about what they plan to do as far as adding more chronological precision, however. I'm contemplating digging into the API just to add in some of that functionality myself. I really will need it, eventually.

Still. I can get by pretty well with dependencies and hiding, as is. You just don't know what productivity really means until you get good at using these!

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort
