Diplomacy Fantasia
Diplomacy Fantasia is a Diplo-type map set in a fantasy world using popular mythology names. The objective of the game is to expand and conquer the world. Players start off with a pre-placed Terran base and must expand to neighboring nations. For every city a player controls, they will be given a resource bonus every 3 mins. Each nation lets players produce a special hero unit from their factories. As players conquer more nations, they will be able to produce more kinds heroes.

*Comp defends - Each city a player invades they will be ambushed by a small comp militia.


*Diplomacy Research - In the pic above, players will have to utilize these areas to help expand their nations. Starting from the left, the 1st beacon is for building more CCs costing 1k? (more or less). The max is 8 cc. The robotics is for purchasing militiary unit capacities. You start with 20 and goes up +20 each purchase. Max is 160. Crash BC is for purchasing upgraded dropships. You start with Dropship, then 1st upgrade is Toss Shuttle then 2nd/last upgrade is Ovie high hp. The last one, the cerebrate, is the status info beacon. Move to this beacon to display your current purchase status to keep track on # of CC unit cap (yes im willing to use tons of strings for this). There are also restrictions on these Techs to prevent one from just upgrading one aspect. For example, in order to upgrade unit cap to 80 you need to have purchase at least 4 CCs. In order to get shuttle upgrade u need to have at least 100 unit cap.
Idea - Maybe when players buys all upgrades, their turrets upgrade into spore colony, higher hp and lil more damage. Also maybe players can acquire a probe to build pylons and cannons for a hefty price.

Decription
A group of diplo players I know wanted a new kind of diplo map. They wanted one that encourages slower/challenging grind expansion and fun modes like 2x nation. I started editing diplo infinity 2.8a and added those rules; soon after, map idea evolved to Diplomacy Fantasia.

This map is intentionally made to have a slow tempo and prevents it from accelerating. Players will have a 50% decrease of resources. Players will also not be able to exponentially expand fast because of the Comp unit spawns in each city. Upgrades cap is on 12 now and research speed is a little slower to equally match the tempo of the map. I want players to be able to have an expanding challenge without running into another player in the first 20 mins of map.

If anyone would like to participate in this project please feel free to post. I will be needing some assistance in organizing nation borders, improved terrain and creative unit hero stats/names.

Your terrain better be top notch. Extended and the whole bit. :P

Add some Civilization like systems or something, because just plain diplo is over-done and boring. None of your features really wow'd me either. If you don't mind me saying, take a look at my map, Diplomacy Empires, and see how I mixed diplo/civ a bit to achieve a different type of playstyle.

Those are just my suggestions however, and GL with the map either way.

I can help.
I'd like to see mountains/elevation + rivers/waterfalls that actually affect the game.
No more pylon/bunker sniping.
Use of sieged tanks.
Use some form of age advancement (Ex's post).
Method to capture a city. If you claim the capital building, you gain the town's defenses.
Ability to build cannons/bunkers.
Less bunker/turret freezing.\

This is a good design goal. I haven't seen any other diplo do a good job at it. It's always potential to take 1 city @ 5 minutes, then 2 @ 8 minutes, then 3 @ 10 minutes, then 9000+ @ 15 minutes.

Something else to do is:
add a working anti hack
Include vote ban (won't work on the phantom in a phantom game) + EUD desync.
add bonuses for acquiring certain countries (ie: some one get all 3 battle cruiser capitals, and a certain city, the city spawns a 4th special BC)
Age upgrade done by researching something, such as siege mode. Make certain upgrades cost X, while others cost Y, Z, ... (have X<Y<Z<etc). All upgrades costing X will upgrade the 1st age, Y will upgrade the 2nd age, etc. Age X must be completed before age Y can be researched.
Make "age upgrades" by requiring a specific amount of minerals (like 7,961 instead of 8,000; the number must be a big enough difference from other unique costs that repairing units/buildings cant glitch them). When the new "age" is acquired, the mineral gain per turn is increased.
Make income go at a rate of 10 or 20 seconds, rather than 5 minutes. Give minerals at a faster rate, but less minerals overall.

I added a new picture that depicts a possible hero arrangement. I tried switching the heroes around so that each nations will not have the same hero type. I used photoshop to create the text (I can edit/move them around easily).

Is there any heroes that need to be switch around?

there is a lot of air, and a lot of melee units... balancing that is gonna be a bitch.
The inf terran is close to the goons and scouts, making easy captures of both.
Lings are close to archon, making for uber tankage, and very fast base leveling.
make hero muta have some distance (like an island) from the hero rine, so that the mutas can harass with good micro.

it also seems like there are less countries than diplo infin

So i found this, and i have to say it looks nice, :). Now, i'd like to support by giving some hero names:

Jaguar Warrior: (Warriors of the noble Warrior Societies of the Aztec Empire, they dressed like the beasts they took their name from) Original name: Ocelopilli
Hawk Warrior: (Warriors of the noble Warrior Societies of the Aztec Empire, they dressed like the beasts they took their name from) Original name: Cuauhpilli
Otomi Warrior: (Warrior from one of the highest ranked Warrior Societies, they take their name from the Otomi people, who resisted fiercely the conquest. The Otomi people often joined the Aztecs as mercenaries or allies) Original name: Otontin
Shaved Warrior: (Warrior from the most praised Warrior Society. They shaved their heads except for a crest of hair in the middle of their heads [much like a mohawk]. On their initiation, they swore not to make a step back in battle, or they'd be executed by their comrades) Original name: Cuauchicqueh

Also here's some weaponry used by the Aztecs, which might be useful to come up with new unit names:

Atlatl: Weapon used to throw small javelins with more range and strenght than by hand, making it preferable over bows or other stuff for short-ranged shots because of it's lethality.

Arrow with obsidian spikes.

Tepoztopilli: Wooden lance with an obsidian tip.

Huitzauhqui: Wooden mace with obsidian edges on the sides.


I know, this is not so much fantasy or mythology anymore, but, i saw spartan warrior, so i said why not?

Those are great unit names; Jaguar Warrior reminds me of Age of Empires.

I have made the official unit name roster and mission objective hero descriptions. I have also named all the 150 cities and capitals and the map is playable. I'll Use Jaguar Flyer for the comp Guardians that spawn during Ragnarok mode. Poseiden,Ares and Krotos will make a guest appearance.

There are actually 40 'countries' in my map but smaller land. That is why you see lots of air units. The air units will be nerfed a bit and small unit caps for each air units (no more ridiculous gas). And... no more big Russia taking up 1/8 of the entire map. Ahh darnit, I have already begun the core triggers of the map. If i redo the unit arrangement i'll have to switch around almost everything =(. *cries* Okay, im willing to do that....... EDIT: Okay new diplo picture up top =D, Lurker is by Rine instead of BC. If you happen to have Adobe Photoshop, download this file to help out with unit arrangement as well:

Sadly this happens to everyone.

A hint:
Copy the triggers into notepad, and use the find/replace function to redo any change in used units, or if your just changing what unit your using, copy the triggers, and just paste them back in when your done.

Well, the Jaguar Warrior IS an Age of Empires unit, as well.

Does the official thing mean you won't be accepting hero names anymore? Well, if it doesn't, then:

David: The hero who slew the giant Goliath. Could be ranged (Since it doesn't make much sense if you say "he melee'd Goliath".

Goliath: The giant who got OWNED by David. Could be some big fat melee unit, :P.

Neron: Roman emperor who burned down great part of his empire to build something i already forgot (i think it was a big fat palace). If i remember correctly what i saw in history channel, he was murdered by his own men.

Dracula: I seriously doubt you'd need info on THIS guy. He could be some small-medium sized melee.

Pandora: The woman with Pandora's Box. Could be an unit with psionic storm?

Black Beard: An infamous pirate. Could be some melee.

Famine/War/Death/Disease?: Horsemen of the apocalypse. Then again since you're putting in some "Ragnarok" mode, maybe these wouldn't fit in so much. No idea what it could be.

Theseus: The hero who slew the Minotaur that crept the maze. Could be a medium sized melee.

Minotaur: The beast who was slain by Theseus in the maze. Could be a medium-big sized melee.


I got some ideas for the kingdoms and the capitals, too:

Neron: His nation could be the New Roman Empire. His capital could be Rome II?

Dracula: His nation could be New transilvania? And his capital New Dracula's Castle?

Minotaur: His nation could be whatever the nation his maze was in was called. And his capital could be, of course, his maze.

Dracula and Black beard are great heroes names for this map but i ran out of acceptable units for nations (hero arbs,carriers and guards are too overpowering for hero special). What I could do is give the arbs, carriers and guards those names and include them with the Ragnarok mode. I could also rename the Shuttle to BlackBeard Airship. Idea: Maybe one scene in Ragnarok mode, Dracula comes out randomly in a nation and 'bites' everyone in its path turning them into vampires.

The dracula thingy sounds good, but what'd you do? Simply some special effects and turning stuff over to the computer? And what unit would you use? I think you could rename Gantrithor as Dracula's Flying Castle, and name interceptors Bats, :D.

Whatever would BlackBeard's airship do if it was a shuttle, by the way? >.>. Spawn Guards around it every so often to make it look like cannonballs? xD. Maybe make it be Danimoth instead of shuttle. That way it cloaks Guards and it looks more like an airship.

Oh, by the way, if you explain a little about this Ragnarok Mode, i could help with ideas. If you don't want to for some reason, like keeping it in suspense thus encouraging the player to find out by itself, then that's okay. I'm just saying.

the Ragnarok basket idea is quite empty, All i have is that players playing in Ragnarok mode will be allied/visioned and their objective is to simply eliminate the Computer. Computer territory is basically the rest of the nations not picked by human players. I'll set computer to insane campaign expansion and make comp build units.

Besides elminating comp, i want there to be some mini-quests that Team Humans can do to get rewards. For example, depending where everyone is placed, comp will spawn carriers or guards and patrol to our Bases. I'll add some roleplay into it; have a text that popups saying: Ares is leading an attack wave of Spartans, Defend Location_1 for x minutes. Completed these random generated quests will give mineral bonuses or spawn extra heroes to ur capital.

Hmm, i was thinking it would be like a survival match, and the last man standing would win. Anyways, i'd say that you don't send the "God" units leading the enemy armies. I was thinking you could also make some hard sidequests about killing the God units (this could include people like dracula and black beard, i'm just using the term God because Ares and Poseidon and Odin and all those dudes, who are gods, will be in like sort of bosses) and a good deal of guards protecting them, and the player who kills that God unit would get it for himself. This would encourage agressiveness against the computer (since i'm assuming it's gonna be mostly defend and build up armies, then just crush it).

Not really. Not always at least. On most of the games i play with friends, either everybody forteits seeing how the odds are impossible, or at least 2 join together and get an allied victory. Then again, since it's with friends, we do permas and declare-only wars and stuff.

I was talking about the Diplomacy mode in my map. Here, Allie victory is disabled so literally, last man standing is the victor. The same rule applies in Phantom mode; if phantom is defeated, the remaining players must battle it out to achieve victory.
