Moose -- I have two copies of that .so in /usr/lib, ./x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/swrast_dri.so and ./i386-linux-gnu/dri/swrast_dri.so. Check that you have them and that their permissions are good
[2016-8-21. : 1:31 pm]
Moose -- I thought Ubuntu used Unity by default
[2016-8-21. : 1:30 pm]
NudeRaider -- and now its got 2 broken ones? Which desktop should Ubuntu have by default?
[2016-8-21. : 1:29 pm]
NudeRaider -- so maybe I used the guide for reset the wrong kind of desktop?
[2016-8-21. : 1:28 pm]
NudeRaider -- and failed to load driver swrast
[2016-8-21. : 1:28 pm]
NudeRaider -- gnome session libGL error: unable to load driver swrast_DRI.so
[2016-8-21. : 1:26 pm]
NudeRaider -- damn son,Linux so verbose. but I did find the error messages I got earlier:
[2016-8-21. : 1:17 pm]
Moose -- TBH, I'm curious if you'd be able to run another desktop and windowing system, like GNOME or XFCE
[2016-8-21. : 1:15 pm]
Moose -- You could try poking around the files in /var/log
[2016-8-21. : 1:13 pm]
NudeRaider -- strg+alt+F1 yes
[2016-8-21. : 1:13 pm]
Moose -- There might be some good information about what's failing in /var/log
[2016-8-21. : 1:11 pm]
Moose -- Can you at least get a terminal window to stay open?
[2016-8-21. : 1:11 pm]
Moose -- upstart is an init-type process that manages other processes, so maybe something it tried to start failed
[2016-8-21. : 1:10 pm]
NudeRaider -- I remember it saying upstart has a problem in a similar window. maybe its that? but then it was a 'recoverable problem'
[2016-8-21. : 1:09 pm]
Moose -- Yeah, and you can have them with numbers after, those would represent logical volumes or partitions
[2016-8-21. : 1:08 pm]
NudeRaider -- yeah basically my system drive. SDB and SDC are data drives
[2016-8-21. : 1:08 pm]
Moose -- /dev/sda are files that represent block devices (storage)
[2016-8-21. : 1:06 pm]
NudeRaider -- BTW. there's a console output saying something about clean SDA but it's done that even when it worked
[2016-8-21. : 1:05 pm]
NudeRaider -- I know but its gone too fast to click details
[2016-8-21. : 1:05 pm]
Moose -- Yeah, the system problem detected should have options to get details on it
[2016-8-21. : 1:03 pm]
NudeRaider -- actually this time around its different. the menu appears but I'm thrown to the login screen. when I login I get a message "system problem detected" for 1 sec then back to login. (with menus) lol
[2016-8-21. : 1:03 pm]
Moose -- And again, what does the .so error say exactly?
[2016-8-21. : 1:02 pm]
Moose -- Hm, what if you try installing a different desktop?
[2016-8-21. : 1:00 pm]
NudeRaider -- so... I'm not getting errors just a blank desktop. I can right click it to open a terminal. And some guide told me to delete the unity config. and when I do that the .so error appear in the terminal
[2016-8-21. : 12:45 pm]
NudeRaider -- gimme a couple mins moose. did a reinstall
[2016-8-21. : 12:44 pm]
Moose -- And what does it say about them?
[2016-8-21. : 12:44 pm]
NudeRaider -- windows 10 is the main reason I'm trying to familiarize myself with linux
[2016-8-21. : 12:42 pm]
NudeRaider -- swrast_dri.so for example. Google search only finds stuff relevant for steam which I haven't installed yet
[2016-8-21. : 12:41 pm]
NudeRaider -- windows is installed.
[2016-8-21. : 12:41 pm]
Moose -- He did, he's trying to dual boot.
[2016-8-21. : 12:41 pm]
Roy -- If you want dual-boot, install Windows 7 and Windows 10.
[2016-8-21. : 12:41 pm]
Roy -- Just install Windows.
[2016-8-21. : 12:39 pm]
Moose -- Dynamic linking is a pain in the ass sometimes. Which .so's is it complaining about?
[2016-8-21. : 12:37 pm]
NudeRaider -- why is it so hard to just install a running Linux?
[2016-8-21. : 12:36 pm]
NudeRaider -- man, now I found an AMD driver that is apparently working but it kills my launcher and menu bar and I can't close programs. Apparently something about some .so files not being able to run. :/
[2016-8-21. : 8:52 am]
CecilSunkure -- o_o
[2016-8-21. : 8:08 am]

[2016-8-21. : 4:45 am]
BloodyZombie117 -- Since I'm not BloodyZombie. I'm just number 117.
[2016-8-21. : 4:44 am]

[2016-8-21. : 4:30 am]
Dem0n -- plz ban bloodyzombie
[2016-8-21. : 4:24 am]
BloodyZombie117 -- Woo, getting cash minerals for playing the boxes.
[2016-8-21. : 4:10 am]
lil-Inferno -- December 21, 2012 or w/e
[2016-8-21. : 4:08 am]
Sand Wraith -- this is crazy, when is the world ending?
[2016-8-21. : 4:08 am]
Sand Wraith -- wow there are new shoutbox features
[2016-8-21. : 2:10 am]
NudeRaider -- actually november for that model - not that it matters
[2016-8-21. : 2:08 am]
NudeRaider -- march 2012
[2016-8-21. : 2:07 am]
NudeRaider -- uh its a 7870. lemme check
[2016-8-21. : 2:03 am]
Moose -- Weird, usually older hardware is more compatible, guess that's not the case. How old is your card?
[2016-8-21. : 1:58 am]
NudeRaider -- the former is installed by default. Done a bit of reading and I seem to have an unlucky combination of OS and GPU version. Since Ubuntu 16 AMD's driver only supports the Rxxx and newer models, but none of the older Radeon HD series. :/ So either I get one of the 2 available open source drivers to work or I need to start with Ub.14 until I get a newer card.
[2016-8-21. : 1:49 am]
Moose -- You could try installing xserver-xorg-video-radeon and xserver-xorg-video-ati from the repositories if you don't have those packages
[2016-8-21. : 1:49 am]
Moose -- This is beyond my knowledge. Nothing stopped working for me when I went from 14 to 16.
[2016-8-21. : 1:47 am]
NudeRaider -- hm. back to square one. apparently that guide is for when you cant open a desktop at all (i can thx to onboard gfx). Moose how likely is it that a driver for 14 is going to run on ubuntu 16? I think that might just be the problem... there is no driver
[2016-8-21. : 1:37 am]
Moose -- For what it's worth, I actually run Xubuntu, so I probably have a different desktop and windowing system. Could be a factor.
[2016-8-21. : 1:36 am]
Moose -- Yes, and includes clipboard, open with editor, host on ZimageZ, host on imgur options
[2016-8-21. : 1:32 am]
NudeRaider -- oh screenshots are cool. it automatically asks you where to save it :)
[2016-8-21. : 1:31 am]
NudeRaider -- I've found a guide that is supposed to fix it. I'm curious to see.if it works. currently reinstalling
[2016-8-21. : 1:30 am]
NudeRaider -- apparently what I'm experience ing is not so uncommon. although my variant is quite hilarious. It displays a garbeld view of my last windows.desktop that apparently is still sitting in the memory. But it either freezes outright or you even get a Linux mouse cursor, but nothing that you can actually click
[2016-8-21. : 1:10 am]
Moose -- You could search the repositories for amd, too
