You're like one step away from "what about units and buildings? they weren't 3d in Starcraft why should they be in Starcraft 2?"
None.
What about the Ghost's C-10 Canister Rifle? It doesn't make that orange gas in StarCraft II.
I dont think it was gas, more of an impact explosion.
The name 'Gauss Rifle' of what the Marine wields is in both in the original StarCraft and StarCraft II yet the StarCraft II one is at a size of a table.
By the looks of it, a bit smaller, but yea, it does seem a bit large.

BCUZ IT LUKS KEWL. And because the 2D sprites were to make 3D like Images. But you probably knew that

From a Sniper Rifle? I always thought of them as precision of elimination at keeping distance rather than an M79.

How about the silly pixelated recycling of a sprite used by other units with a quick palette swap because it's a 256 color game from 1998?
We take this stuff a little too seriously sometimes.

Canister Rifle explosion =
exploding bullets of the future.
And i bet the gauss rifle uses hollow point bullets?
None.

Eh? Why? What does that have to do with anything?
Poor prarie dogs.
The Canister Rifle is very effective against Mutalisks in StarCraft II, although it isn't exploding bullets.

you sure? makes you wonder why they used the word canister :0

Particularly because the Mutalisk is organic and the 'Organic/Fleshy, Mechanical, Essence, Heavy' will be play a bigger part in StarCraft II. Like which will take more or less damage from which specific attack type (Piercing, Explosive, Melee, Laser, etc).
None.
Ghosts apear to walk faster and seem more like L33TOperatives in SC2 also.
About the gauss rifle, Gauss Gun, Gauss Rifle, ITS A RAIL GUN.
Note: This is Zerg Revealed, why are we talking about Ghosts?
I don't think Essence will be part of StarCraft: II, seeing as how there aren't any (as of yet) "Spirit" units. Maybe the archon
The microing on SC2 changed alot too.

About the gauss rifle, Gauss Gun, Gauss Rifle, ITS A RAIL GUN.
Gauss Rifle just means it utilizes magnetic propulsion to fire metal projectiles. Rail Gun refers to the way it is propelled, using rails. You also have Coil Guns, and who knows what the future might bring.

"Heavy" is a unit type? Does that mean they're getting rid of unit sizes besides heavy and not?
None.

Light and Armored seem to be the two main unit types. Ghost Canister Rifle currently does +15 to Light targets, and the Mutalisk is Light.

The way I understood it is they don't change at all. The only thing that changes is how we see them. IE right now we see Dragoons dealing half damage to rines and lings and 3/4th to vults and hydras. I think in SC2 they change it so it deals full damage to marines and lings then extra damage to vults and hydras and even more damage to heavy units. Making it different but slightly easier to understand (ie: adding 10 + 5 is easier than dividing 20 by 4/3).

SC2 =
Light / Armored, some weapons do +x damage to a specific type. Definately easier to figure out on the fly, especially since it'll likely be contained within the weapon tooltip, as opposed to many people first learning about the weapon/size relationship in SC1 from StarEdit's Help menu.

The new death animations kind of suck. Especially the hydralisk, it just like pops and it's gone.
Remember how they mentioned they were going to use their wonderful engine which can slide bodies down ramps? Whats the point if the hydra goes poof?

Death animations are obviously not all done, the game is still in development after all. Blizzard has stated on a number of occasions that death animations will depend on how the unit was killed. (Ie: Marine exploding from Siege Tank blast and being sliced in half by Dark Templar)

X% based damage will always be the easiest.
