If you center a location on the a unit on the edge of the map, will the location go off the map?

no, the location will go right up to the edge of the map, so therefore the location won't be completely centered on the unit.

It will bounce off the edge of the map if it would be going outside it.

But recently Kenoli posted a little discovery that if you modify location properties, so that its coordinates are inverted(Top left and Bottom Right switch) then it can go outside the map, but it doesn't detect conditions like most locations, they have to be touching all edges of the location at once to be detected. It works well if you don't need to use the location to detect anything, I've been using it in my Movie Contest map and it is working just fine.

What would happen if you had an irregular map size that was smaller than the location you made?

Preplaced locations will go outside the map, but I'm not sure what would happen if you tried to center it then.

Starforge, you can edit each point of a location in its properties.

Just double click the location (SF or SCM) and then swap the top and bottom, and the right and left coordinates.

This map here http://www.staredit.net/?file=189 is what you are looking for. It demonstrates how inverted location can move off the side of the map.

How does it work?

Simple, it centers an inverted location over top of a Protoss Corsair. The location is the size of the map. (64x64) Then, it creates a unit and destroys it. As you will notice, it is always created underneath the unit even though that it is near the edge of the map.

Problem:

When you move the Corsair to one of the bottom corners, left or right, it comes up with an error. This must be because you can't create a unit, even in an editor, and have it in the bottom two squares. (normal grid) Or so I think. Is this correct?

Why using an inverted 64x64 location? Centering a regular 1x1 location would create the same effect, wouldn't it?

Yes it would, but its just to show the user how an inverted location could go off the edge of the map. :-_-:

you could try creating a larger mapsize, make your location, invert it, then shrink your map.

Some Questions:

That simple? Does the game crash? You just change the coordinates of the location to something that would go outside of the map? Scmdraft2 or Starforge? Do you have to change any properties in your editor? Won't the location "bounce" back in the editor?

It only bounces when you center it, both editors can edit location coordinates, I am using it in Movie Contest Emerald and there is no problems to far, and it is a 256x256 map.
