Hi,
Currently mappers have to choose to enable EUDs at the cost of reaching CCMU sooner.
Will Starcraft ever be updated so this doesn't have to be a choice, e.g. no unit limit (aside from RAM) and EUD triggers?
Also, why is there a unit limit at all--memory is pretty cheap these days (standard PCs ship with 8GB+)
None.

Probaby not.

It has nothing to do with hardware resources.
It's so all existing EUD maps made in 1.16.1 will continue to work.
They could easily make a new version of the map specification that allowed for 4x the standard unit limit alongside EUDs so that newly created maps could have extended limits and EUDs, while old maps remain with their current limitations. This would require less work than the EUD emulator did in the first place.
But it doesn't seem Blizzard has any particular interest in doing this.
None.
