Gameplay Video / Trailer (please watch in fullscreen)

Download the map and read documentation - Preview the triggers list

Probably all SEN members have played SC1, and most have played it for long a time. I hope the current six games available in this multi-game map will satisfy your nostalgia for good old UMS, in SC2 3D!

Games Available (just host, select, and click Create Game):
Big Game Hunters
BGH Phantom
Art of Defense
SCV Football
Block the Gate
Dodge the Rapierist

SC1 Greatest Hits as it is called is published in the US. You can search-create it using the keyword "greatest"
gl hf, by yourself for now... :D

Public domain release edit:
SC1 Greatest Hits was created not just be played, but studied and improved upon by others like the many SC1 maps I had made before. With that in mind when starting this project as my first SC2 map, almost every steps I made in creating it was followed by documentation within the map itself, so that a new map maker would have a kindred understanding of how things were done.

For those who were already versed in SC2 map making, I offer you the convention of trigger formatting and organization, and provide some modifiable utility triggers for use in your own maps:
- Mass catalog editing of tech, upgrades, and abilities cost
- Custom efficiently sorted leaderboard
- Custom alliance menu as in phantom maps
- Dialog animators: fade, spin, slide, morph, shake, whirl dialog and dialog items
- Tens more macro functions and utility custom actions

Since the map is released as public domain, you may use whatever parts or even the whole map itself without asking me permission or crediting me. I will still be developing the map on the NA server, but I could be interested in those who wants to make and add a clean game to the metamap system, thereby making this a community project

Also, which Impossible Scenarios have you included?

There are several levels in "Block the Gate" with trigger-placed bases and enemies. I'm sorry I misled you to think that Impossible Scenario is included as a whole game. I'll edit the post.

I decided not to port any IS map because their novelty wore off after hours of tediously inching your army toward the static enemy base. I have played many IS maps, and I find that they are better off included in variety with other dynamic you-get-attacked scenarios instead.

>be faceless void >mfw I have no face

"Dodge the Rapierist" OLOL SO PC

Looks pretty cool, scv football and dodge games are always fun, and phantom is great for getting together with a group of friends and smashing each other's faces in.

Red classic.

"In short, their absurdities are so extreme that it is painful even to quote them."

:payne:

This is seriously fucking E-P-I-C.
Just played it with 5 persons and we were all nostalgic about how great it felt to be in that screen where we select the maps.

This project could become seriously EXTREMELY big with a large Database of maps.
I'd be willing to help create more maps.

Maybe a SEN Contest to recreate sc1 classics could be hosted as well?
I already see Blizzard's face when they'll see this as #1 most played and they'll realize B.net 2.0 is crap. :awesome:

EDIT: Level 2 on Block The Gate just spawned a lot of Hellions and Firebats directly on our army... it really sucked and we died nearly instantly. Bug?
Also, only thing that sucks is the loading time. :(

EDIT: SCV Football was filled with glitches as well. Some times, there would be 2 balls on the play.
Also, make it not require us to manually attack. And set alliances properly: I was allied with everyone except one of my enemy. :/
And please, don't make the game end when we're done with one game. Let us play all maps without remaking each time. :(

My original sinister scheme was to use this map as "Trojan horse" such that when it becomes popular on the list, I can add niche/cult games but still be able to get players  . I had also thought of making this an open project with members contributing modules (self-contained games) that I can just copy and paste in the trigger editor. But at the moment I feel it's too late (SC1 veterans are gone) as there are very few people responding to the map's threads on several sites I posted. But I still plan to continue adding more games in my free time.

Block the Gate and various Korean control maps' trademark is reacting quickly, skillfully, and exploiting your given units' abilities. That particular level was ambush style, you had stalkers so you should've immediately blinked out of danger. I made most of the levels barely winnable even for myself since I prefer challenge, though I do go overboard sometimes.

That duplicate football bug has been elusive, I couldn't find why it happened so instead I used a trigger counteract the bug by removing the duplicate, so if you saw two then somehow it did not work as thought.
When did you play the map? I updated it this afternoon after finding out the custom Ally-Groups trigger I made had a bug. It's fixed now so it should create two opposing teams with members allied.
What do you mean not having to attack manually? You want your SCVs to have a suicide trigger?

I had thought of allowing players to "remake" the game by reentering the virtual lobby, but note that I started this map before Blizzard changed the popularity system to time played instead of games played. The problem with resetting is the amount of things to revert: shared global variables, data catalog values, hidden terrain, destroyed doodads, resources value, scores, and others I forget to mention. I consider my inconvenience in implementing the remake feature to be much worse than players' inconvenience of rehosting the game. Though I will consider doing it if large enough people requested.

I'm glad that you liked it. I only have two friends to test it with instead of a group of volunteers, but I'm very picky about bugs and would quickly fix them if informed in detail.

Edit: I think I know what you meant by the SCV attack/ally glitch. I really have found the bug and fixed the alliance trigger this time.

That's exactly what I did. Problem: Stalkers have the same range as Hellions. :/

Enemies were allied => We had to A+Left-click them to attack (manual attack). I want my SCVs to automatically target them. :massimo:

I'll quote what I've said.

Quote
Isn't Drant the creator of Labyrinthos and consequently this: http://renaka.com/pages/starcraft/motd ?

If so, I assume he already knows the best classics :P, because I totally agree with his choices of maps...

Nevertheless... Offensive Strike, Bomb IraqSaudi Iraqia, Rainbow 6, Volleyball, Archon Tag, Worms, Normandy Invasion, and Temple Siege:awesome:(just kidding) isn't on there, and they're all on your list!

But I see what you did there, you made the ones that are easy to make and doesn't require level designing or too much balancing.

If you need my game design expertise (or whatever that's left of it, if I had any from the start).. just ask and I'll support.

I'm surprised by the UI.. I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy it.
This map has amazing potentials, so many that I don't even know where to begin...

But I think the best plan of action is to take the best/eziest ones you've listed on your SCMOTD, and just remake them as classics.
lol @ the trojan horse idea.. It'd surely work :sly: buut that isn't what you want anymore is it?
So yeah... I'm excited, but I'm reserving it for when I actually play this :P

So Payne.. Next mapnight.. Make it Happen.

Definately. :sly:
Also, I want "Bomber Probe" in there. As well as "Siege Dyne" and "RUSH". :massimo:
Oh! And of course, Mini-Game Party! :awesome:

EDIT: UU, weren't you making a "Top-list" of sc1 maps? Kind of a good time to get it out. ;)

EDIT: Omg, was about to forget "CTF DustFort" <3

This seems like a fun map.

I like how the ending of the video is silently yet brutally honest about the fact that the only way this map will ever get played is on Map Night, until it gains a lot of popularity or someone makes iCCup 2.0.

@Payne

Yeah... but i've lost all support on it all of a sudden when I asked the participating members for their own top 20 list...
There're a lot of games that I myself don't even know about...
I opted against doing a poll vote so that obscure games wouldn't be eliminated just b/c no one's ever played it....

I guess it's time to whip out that excel sheet I have and put a poll out...

Drant, the map's filled with bugs.
... And -REQUIRES- a "Change Map" feature.

Also, try to make it clear that some maps aren't playable so people don't cry about host not chosing the one they wanted. Maybe disabled dialog item or something?

Feb 14 2011, 3:52 am Drant Post #13

If you want me to fix bugs then you should tell what exactly is the bug. I've only had the opportunity to test the map in single player and once in a while with a friend, so I depend on players' detailed feedback to improve it.

I am implementing the remake feature since a few more people requested it. I can highlight the ready-to-play games, but I foresaw that players would complain to the host anyway, tough. I'll add a game variant to the real battle.net lobby so the host can pre-select a game as a "promise" that he will host it.

Don't make Game Variants... they suck imo. :massimo:
Also, hourray for "Rematch" feature! :D

While we're at it: some times, it's hard to debate on the game we should play... give us moar time! :C

And the bug: some random players would some times get 2 dodgers in the "Dodge The Rapierist" map.
Also, you're Safe Zone is inaccurate. I saw a lot of people dying near the edges of those zones.
Oh, and I remember seeing the Sad-Face-Smiley death-presentation not being removed after a revive. Can't remember if the guy had left.

Spellsword wouldn't work.
It's not well-known enough
and it is one of those games that would benefit immensely by the SC2 editor.

One'd want to showcase classic, simple concept games that defined SC1.
This is why I never suggested Temple Siege.
(or I did, but I crossed it out as a hint :P)
