Anyway, I have decided to run with the project name being "Shangri La" which is an Oriental name for an Utopia land. Think of a Garden of Eden-type place, thats what it is. It also has the pun intended that the place is a war zone now, making for an interesting setting.

Right now, my focus is getting the terrain in order:

Edit: The general idea is that the river (running East to West in the middle of the map) starts off with Agria Foliage (left-most blend) and blends towards Dirt (middle two blends), the desert areas are reserved for the 'wasteland' in which neutral creeps are found and stretches towards the teams two opposing bases which are made completely from Concrete. I am also considering putting in a sort of 'oasis' in two locations, middle of a desert patch with grass blend coming out.

I still want feedback on this terrain tileset! Or should I just go ahead and continue terraining?

Champion Idea: Elemental Archon
While I love having someone willing to take a dive on terrain, I am currently looking at it with this perspective: Actual jungles and such, with a lot of green and blue, have been over-adapted into the genre. Why don't we take fire, structures, destroyed cities... Make it look like actual battling has happened and is happening? Besides, StarCraft is a dark game with technology and is generally about destruction. Here is a good image to look at, but don't think that is what I want done. It's just the general theme of the map.



Also, came up with a random idea for a story:

Welcome to Shangri-La, the world where it's people have reached a state of immortal beings. They are willing to share their powers, but they require something in return: Blood. Gladiators from all over the universe have come to Shangri-La, destroying it's once beautiful features and turning it into a war zone. Different alliances have been formed under the different beings of Shangri-La, fighting for their name in order to receive what they have to offer. Even when the Gladiators die, the astral beings revive them to continue battle for their amusement and pleasure, where the Gladiators seek unlimited immortality. Some have become so accustomed to the war, that they now just do it for pleasure themselves.

Instead of gold, we can call them Blood Points or something. This would help people who think, "Why do these little bastards have gold? Why am I getting experience? etc." You are killing units and in essence, taking their blood, so that your faction's Shangri-La being grants you more power and crafts you mystical items.

They are this way for a reason, to make the "safer" route with towers long, but you can cut down the time drastically by running through the debris of the map. This could cost you if any heroes went missing though, because they could come grab you up for a nasty surprise. The current list of what we need done is as follows:
  • A Terrain Template. This should be done, to include every major height and cliff that divides the lanes from one another. Just reduce their range by a lot and increase their attack rate, making them look physical. I think this would look nice. Marines for the Ranged, nothing really needs to get messed with here. Then use Siege Tanks for the ballistic units. We need them balanced and exactly alike in stats, so them winning against one another is just based on how many have been piled up, who is assisting them and what kind of damage they are dealing. Their attacks should be rather slow all-together though, so heroes can last hit them to get blood for their faction's pool, getting them items and experience for more powers. We need people opening up the Data Editor, modifying units, testing their balance against one another and submitting the results.
  • A more efficient background story. I like the idea of the whole Shangri La, so let's run with it. Multiple people should submit their ideas.
  • We really don't need champion or item ideas at the moment. Make a unit with spells in the editor and submit it to the other topic, that is the best way of getting your hero or its abilities, into this map.

I feel like I'm getting to a a random posting-obsessed person for this project, so I'll reduce my rate of posting for this/these topics.

Just some quick notes:
  • Utopians - Protoss
  • Barbarians/Invaders - Terran
  • Neutrals - Zerg
As the utopian society had become technologically advanced, they were invaded by barbarians. The barbarians had destroyed much of their land and stole the newest, most powerful invention created. A Resurrector. This would be dreadful if gone to the market, so the utopians had to make a stand. Knowing that attacking them head-on would be useless while they had the Ressurector in their hands, they decided to fight fire with fire. It is said that this war still rages today, and only the bravest of souls have ever been tagged with the Ressurector.

Not good at names, and not good at stories. But I want to contribute because I am a fan of DotA and LoL, hoping this will be entertaining as well.

This background story would explain the heroes, the war, and the reason. The notes also make use of each race, which can be changed when/if this is turned into a game of itself.

This generic back-draft of a story is far less limiting in terms of content creation for the final product of the game. We can have limitless races (Terran, Psionics, Hybrids, Zergs, Critters even)... And we can mould different races characteristics and play-style into the overall plot and storyline of the game.

Noone said that the utopian and barbarians cannot hire mercenaries.

I think keeping a strong hold of the "Blood God" type situation, where heroes pay for everything in blood, would suffice. Also explain why your getting money over time, for killing and for killing someone who has killed a lot. Their bound to have a shit ton still covering them. Plus would give a cool effect if we make everything bleed a little more. ;O

As for races, I dont even see why we are really all that concerned with it yet. Though creeps should definitely be terran.

The first thing Shangri-La made me think of was the anime Noein...

But anyway, I like the story, as it also seems to keep away from the general "these guys are fighting to protect both their homelands, one good and one evil" idea. Very creative.

Haha, it's the idea of a modern world Garden of Eden.

Alright, I have someone working on the terrain in the mean time. Also have some ideas regarding the creeps and how/where they spawn in the game.

Alright, I am getting a little upset. I have gone through 3 terrainers who were all "yeah man, let's do this!" to just... nothing. So I guess we should try to get some attention for the project. Who here is down for some back and forth data editing? I am going to restart my computer and hopefully the editor will stop lagging like a joke, begin working on the creeps and just use some random terrain from some random map. In the mean time, anyone who is interested in creating a hero, put down your ideas and anyone interested in jumping in on the project (it is a community project, everyone will be known for their contributions and will be listed. Once we have enough heroes and cool effects, release a video and then wait a few days, post "Terrainer Needed!" on SC2Mapster. The idea is flawless :3

I would like to give some more hero ideas then the ones i have here but what kind of aos are you making?... by which i mean the demeanor of it... do you want it to be dark and serious or cliche?, i spent over 1 hour looking through Asian folkore so i better get some credits if my idea's gets in </3, on another note do you want it in English or a word derived from Asian words... e.g. kunai (blade) and e-gui (hungry ghost) ghost that eats blade is called kune-gui (fake of course :O)

Any who heres' some ideas

A fire like demon derived from Chinese culture, Buddhism, and Taoist belief where as burning "Hell notes to keep spirits full/ as an offering. Mana acts like gas for a mechanical unit where as if it loses all mana it get stopped until an offering is made to it (ie wait random amount of time)

Viking; as ground to air combat is important for this unit but there should be some weakness for its flight otherwise it my be imbalanced
