Our Deepest Fear

I didn't write this, but I love it so I thought I should post it here.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

This is a nice paragraph formatted like a free-form poem, at first glance. I hate this poem because of its apparent lack of meter and rhyme. As a poem, I hate it.
Reading it makes me think about why Westeners are such psychopathic freakshows. I think the mindset this poem is written to promote is incredibly naïve and annoying. Sounds pretty egotisticle. Also, church propaganda.

So you only like poems that rhyme? I'll put it in a paragraph if you want. (done)

Just because it has God written in the poem doesn't make it church propaganda. It is saying that many people do not live up to their potential and that you should try and by doing so we inspire others to do the same.

In paragraph form, the piece is much more epic.

That was more of a nonsensical exclamation of a spontaneous thought I had. It carried little significance.

The way I imagine it, it just makes my heart want either to:
A) shrivel up and die
B) raise Hell and kill.

Subjectively, I don't really like it. Objectively from a mechanical standpoint, it's all right. Overall, it's got some potential for epicness, and it's not something which appeals to me.

This poem is actually very famous. I can see that you don't know that. I found a video from the movie Coach Carter. It feels more inspirational from the video than in text.

Saw this on someones Facebook status. The fact that I saw it coming from Samueal jackson first to begin with really ruins it for me. I can't take it seriously and it makes me want to dismiss it as some... obvious... and naive. I mean I can never imagine myself being truly afraid of what I'm capable of. I can't Identify with it.

Although,

If it was just this part I would've like it 100%.

Do you think that the text alone or the video was a better representation of the poem?
