Ok, so, I want to recreate this effect with computers but I'm (almost) sure its impossible.

Here is a screen shot of the effect.
And another

You mean you want to have an arbiter cast stasis on an archon? Why didn't you just say that.

No, not that. This is a glitch. It makes an archon appear to have a stasis field around it after unfreezing. It can still move, attack, patrol and hold postion just like a normal archon.

Then how is the glitch done?
Then how is the glitch done?
By casting stasis on the archon while it is just coming out of melding, the building timer bar on the unit is completely filled and the animation of the archon finishing is played at the beginning of the stasis. After the archon unfreezes it will still have the stasis field around it but it can act as a normal archon does.

Casting stasis can be done pretty reliably, but I don't see how you can detect when the Archon is almost finished. So probably not possible to do that automatically.

Well, you can detect losing high templars, set build time and provoke an arbiter to stasis, the problem is getting the 2 templars to combine.

Hm. True. That could work. However getting computers to meld could be a problem, as your other thread indicates.
Hey it works for dark archons too.
But I still have the "melding" problem.
None.
New hero: Ice Cube.
You could try using a melee AI.
EDIT: Make sure they have enough psi to meld.

Yea, planing on an Ice Golem Unit, but all the Starcraft AIs are crap and I'm not going to play around with all the Brood War AIs just to find out nothing works. I could just do manual meld and let cpus do the rest.

Holy molies, this is awesome! Do the archons act normally except for the stasis graphic?
Also, has anyone tried this with other units that morph/meld? (ie, doing it on guardians/devourers as they come out of their cocoons, casting it right as a drone is about to build a building, or making some other unit meld into some other unit in a mod, etc)

Yes it has been tested for the zerg morphs, sadly it does not work and yes the units act normally. Here is the map if you want to test this stuff out (It may be a little hard to time right)

Just make the player meld them.

Thats probably what I'll end up doing.

When you create an archon via triggers it goes through the animation that is the exact same as "being done melded". Could you just cast stasis right after the archon is created, and have it hit at the desired moment in the animation?

Doesn't work, believe me, i would love for it to be that easy.
None.
Here it is! This should work for you, it does for me.
Edit: This will do 2 stasis's.
Edit 2: it will take a little more than 40 game seconds to create the Ice Golem after starting the meld.

Actually, it will work it if works how you originally described it. The only reason it wouldn't work is if you don't actually know
why it works, and only know how to make it work.
