Okay sen, here's the deal. I've earned a sort of "one trip anywhere as long as it's not ridiculously expensive ($1000, $2500 max per person) free" ticket. Now, my first choice would be Japan, but I have absolutely no idea what to see and where to go/stay/eat/sleep. So, if there are any people here who have traveled to Japan before, I would like to hear of their experiences. Second, the trip may or may not be restricted to the U.S., I'm still waiting to find out. My choice in the U.S. would be a conference of some sort. (I wish I hadn't missed GDC, but anything like that would be preferable) Anyway I'm planning to depart the first week after school gets out (early june) and travel from 7-10 days. Any help is appreciated.

***UPDATE***
The trip IS restricted to the U.S., so that means I'd like to go to a GDC or something similar. Any ideas?

If you do go to an internal US thing, then why not a model UN or something of that variety? Will look good on your resumé to say you'd participated.

Find those travel sites.. like expedia.ca or travel stuff...

Even better, you can sleep in those "capsule hotels" in japan.. Cheap, and a fun experience (for a few days at most lol)

Well preferably by this summer, but I guess not really. When is that?

My mother gave me this opportunity as well for a graduation present after I was finished with high school.
There were no restriction, I could have went anywhere in the world, but I decided not to take up on it.

I have been to many places in the States, but I do not travel as much as I used to.
California has some nice beaches, such Venice Beach, but they are said to get dangerous at night.

Then there are always big cities like New York City or Chicago.
Besides the monuments, all they really have are awesome museums, and various foods you may have never tried.

Visiting the Dells in Wisconsin, you will find yourself in a city built to be a giant amusement park.
There are water parks such as Noah's Ark and roller coasters/ go-karting like Mt. Olympus.

Missouri seems like all forests and poorly constructed roads, but they have some of the finest lakes in the U.S. known as the Ozarks. It is great place for Water Skiing and tubing, all in fresh water too.

Then there are places that I have yet to go like the Appalachian Mountains.
I do not know about you, but I love climbing. I would not take it seriously, but going up a hundred feet or more could be pretty awesome.

Anyway, this is just a few ideas for you to ponder about if you have not already done so.

As a Wisconsinite, I heavily recommend the Dells. It's insanely fun. If you're looking for relaxing, go to the Great Wolf Lodge or the Wilderness. They're hotels/pool areas. Buy tickets to Noah's Ark and Mt. Olympus if you go to the Dells. Fun as hellll, but probably would get old after a while.
