I just want anyone to post their idea of a hero (not limited by sc's/sc2's bounds). I'll give 2 examples:

The Ninja
Weapon: Throwing Knives
Secondary Weapon: Katana
Attribute: Speed
Secondary Attribute: Evasion
Abilities: Triggered Cloaking
Personality: Mysterious/Silent/Honor Bound
Potential SC Build: Protoss Assassin, similar to the DT. Perhaps a hybrid of the DT and the Ghost.
Description: This ninja is nothing like Japan's ninjas; he is a whole new generation of the "ninja." He uses psionic abilities to warp space around him to guide his knives accurately to his target. His sword is not at all sharp, but the heavy aura of energy surrounding makes the blade sharp. He is a pvp hero, and takes advantage of the shadows/the night. This guy will probably have attack damage and spell, rather than HP/armor.

Undead Elephant?
Weapon: Gigantic sword. Think "Kisame" from Naruto.
Secondary Weapon: Ranged splash attack
Attribute: Strength
Secondary Attribute: Splash attacks
Abilities: Triggered Evasion (like 90% chance of evade when casted)
Personality: Obnoxious/Loud
Potential SC Build: Although originally made to be a human, this hero more fits the position of an Ultralisk like hero. It has giant blades, and possibly has a short ranged splash attack (acid?) that can poison its opponents. This guy is meant to be on the front lines, leading his spawn. More of a physical fighter than a spell whore. He may just have a really big attack, but do all damage in poison. His long sword/tusks may hit many units, poisoning them all.

Listing spells is optional, the "ability" I listed above are just to help show the type of hero they would be.
Try to keep the ideas as T, P, Z, TP, PZ, TZ, or TPZ.
So far, I have about 15 of these heroes. I'm looking for unique hero ideas.

AoS? Seriously? If you're really going to make one have a character that has lightning bolt spells.

Getting ideas for my FPS AoS. I want to get more hero ideas than I can use, then just pick the best ones.
And lightning bolt will be a spell.

Psi Sniper
Weapon: Psi-powered sniper rifle
Secondary Weapon: Psi Storm? Warp Blade?
Attribute: Accuracy
Secondary Attribute: High Damage vs certain opponents
Abilities: One-shot kill on most spawn
Personality: Cold/Calculating/Impossible to confuse
Potential SC Build: Protoss Ghost, essentially.
Description: This sniper was initially trained as a High Templar, but he took his basic training and raised it to new heights, eventually designing a weapon for himself that focused his energies into a single projectile of deadly accuracy and strength. He calculates all possible outcomes of a situation before taking action, but, being a protoss, this is not difficult for him. In seconds he can determine where to fire his next shot so that it can do the most damage.

I think the harder part of making an AoS spells are creative spells, and not the actual character itself. This is what I was hoping to see when I opened this topic. I mean, stories are cool, but most people can make a cool character, but very few can make awesome spells.

You're not really asking for any mapmaking help in this topic, it's more of an "idea share" so I'm moving this to UMS Theory/Ideas.

So i have this one idea i'd get lazy to pull off if i wanted to and i'd like to share it. I have some more ideas but i'm sort of... using them xP.

Tribal Warlord
Weapon: Dual Broadswords
Secondary Weapon: Magic Ball Projectile
Atribute: Magic
Secondary Atribute: Strenght
Abilities: Apocalyptic damage on melee/range.
Personality: Short-tempered, Leader-ish, Adventurous, Honourable.
Potential SC Build: Uhh, Zealgoon?
Description: This guy dominates both destructive magical arts and fit-for-a-titan weapons. He pretty much is superior to anyone and anything in man-to-man combat and can decimate spawn armies with his impressive spells. His drawbacks: He's a slowass and not really careful to his surroundings (default permanent blind status [possible?]?), he just hungers for battle. Oh yeah, he sucks microing.

Hope that helps but probably not, ^_^.

Let me show you how to hump without making love.

Ethereal
Weapon: Energy
Secondary Weapon: Moar Energy
Attribute: Healing
Secondary Attribute: Moar Healing and Moarest Energy
Abilities: Healing Spirit
Personality: Loli (Not Joking)
Potential SC Build: Possibly Tassadar, although a Medic is more fitting.
Description: Her abilities would rely on being able to heal those around her and in doing so, heal herself. The more units around her, the longer she can live. Therefore, she would be amazingly hard to kill in a teamfight and would need the focus. However, 1v1, she can still hold her own ground with Healing Spirits. They have the ability to sacrifice themselves to lockdown enemies, although doing so greatly decreases her ability to heal.

I have ideas but I really hate the way to show them so I just will give names and a little explanaiton.

Abomination - The abomination is a man that came insane for his wisdom and now is completely wild but can control the arcane's secrets. Can copy the enemies' abilities skills.
Pure soul - The pure soul is a woman that can absorb all the sins and pain from the people surrounding her and use it against her enemies but causing her a big pain while she have that inside herself. Can absorb the negative effects.
Overlord - The overlord was a treasure seeker time ago, but he found a ancient magic rune that allows him to bend the man's mind to hurt or to own them. Can control the enemies.
Fog's creature - This creature lives in the fog and don't go out even if he want to hunt, as he can own the fog as he will he make his victim fall into the dark fog lossing consience of it self and dying in a battle impossible to fight. Can turn off the player's vision.
Mole man - The mole man is a pacific creature, but a master in the art of fight, he use his weapons with mastery but the most dangerous is his jaw. When he want to kill, he can walk underground to attack the enemies when they can't defend theimselves. Can walk underground.

Still Napping

SC limits aside you can come up with tons.

Try to think along the lines of heroes that require skill to use and encourage the creative use of skills. For example, have a telekineticist. He can move things and give bursts of force. He might use his spell on himself to augment his own athletic abilities or to as a support role and move things to create/remove cover for allies/enemies. He should also have the option of going full out power and blasting the shit outta everything. The plan is to put the power in the hands of the player, let them play the hero how they want, not limiting it to stereotypical roles.

As I read along here I see some pretty cool ideas, but how exactly are these going to be creative?

What about a time mage? It isn't a super original concept, but an interesting one nonetheless. He should be able to slow down time, speed it up, etc. Make sure that you don't give the player a set role, but only a basic power idea.

Another idea is to give a ninja some combat abilities. Ninjas are commonly swift and hard to hit (or so the common belief is). So why can't they be able to dodge ranged attacks or melee attacks. This gives the player the option of assuming a combat role instead of a stealth role.

Yeta Warrior
Weapon: Giant Hammer
Secondary Weapon: Giant Fists....
Attribute: Strength?
2nd Attribute: Slow... but spells and abilities can increase its speed.
Abilities: Freezing Abilities
Personality: A Wild Yeti with Warrior char's.. brave, strong, and courageous, but also beastly.
Potential SC Build: ..... Ultra
Description:
Spell 1 - Club Swing - Area of Effect... the Yeta dashes in and hurls the hammer around, also throwing back smaller units..
Spell 2 - Ice Shard or smth - Some sort of freezing spells that slowdown/stuns enemies
Spell 3 - Yeta's Rawr - Heroic RAWR that makes spawns and allies near him do more dmg and take less dmg... OR give him more speed.
Spell 4 - Fur ball - Yeta curls into a ball and can roll around quickly, doing damage along the way, as well as having some freezing effects and defense. Hurt enemies will be stunned but yeta's ball will be hard to control.

Possible Passive spells
  • Thick Fur - More defense against certain attacks
  • Jelly Belly - More defense against certain attacks different from Thick Fur protection..
  • Frozen Touch - Freezing effects in its attacks
  • Yeta's Strength (needs better name?) - makes its Spells cover more area and faster (except spell 4 maybe..)

Other possible spells
  • Hammer throw - Throws the hammer, dealing good damage, but must retrieve hammer to use it again.
  • Hammer Leap - Leap towards enemy, stunning in an AoE - Good combo with Spell 1...
  • Swift Claw - Claws at enemies, throwing them back
Hopefully, it's possible to trigger a "throwing back" movement.

My hero thinking > you :D

Arachila
Weapon: Claws
Secondary Weapon: Venomous Sting/Poison Spit (Ranged DoT)
Attribute: Agility
Secondary Attribute: Movement
Abilities: Can cast webs to swing/move across obstacles; can climb up/on anything.
Personality: Taunting, Evil
Potential SC Build: Not a clue.
Description: Arachila is a spider-like being. It can stick to anything, almost like a fly, and has sharp claws to defend itself. However, its main role is harassment and entrapment; it can fling webs on foes to slow them down or even stop them, and while its attacks do little damage, it has damage over time abilities that slowly wear away at foes.

Beast
Weapon: Ultralisk-ish blades
Secondary Weapon: Trampling, stomping
Attribute: Size
Secondary Attribute: Strength
Abilities: So big it can walk up cliffs/etc. Water merely slows it down. It's not very fast, but its sheer size grants it both incredible strength and tough armor. Can trample most spawns down with ease.
Personality: Not too bright; easily confused, and reacts in anger most of the time.
Potential SC Build: Uberlisk?
Description: No one knows where the Beast came from. He just showed up on the battlefield one day and started tearing stuff to shreds with his ginormous blades. Some have suggested that he has Zerg origins; perhaps a cross between hive DNA and ultralisk DNA. But no one really knows. He's too big to fit into many of the small spaces on the battlefield, so he has to stay outside bases and caves and such.

Firebreather
Weapon: Fire...?
Secondary Weapon: Suicide.
Attribute: Strength
Secondary Attribute: Reincarnation
Abilities: Stimpack, able to kill many units at once
Personality: Quick-witted, but aggresive
Potential SC Build: Firebat..? o.o
Description: The Firebreather lives forever, literally. His ability to rise from his ashes give him almost complete invincibility. It's said he comes from the Terran Dominion because of his amazing abilities with fire, but his reincarnation is not explained. Because of his unexplained appearence, many believe he is just a lone wanderer who showed up, burning everything in his path, fighting for something that holds a true meaning to him.

I'd just like to point out to everyone that SC2's physics engine will probably allow for knockback effects, damage from physical force based on two objects colliding, death from falling, units using strange/different means of movement, and on and on.

So we aren't limited to x unit with x attack and x spell that does x to x.

On that note:

Telekinesist
Weapon: Mind
Secondary Weapon: None
Attribute: Mental Strength
Secondary Attribute: Mental Dexterity
Abilities: Can use telekinesis to affect foes and the environment in ways limited only by the Telekinesist's imagination and intelligence.
Personality: Wise, Content, Tough
Potential SC Build: No idea. We can't think in terms of currently-existing units, though.
Description: The Telekinesist has immense mental powers. He can fling an ultralisk to the moon with ease, though it costs him energy. He can alter the environment, moving rocks and earth and forming natural barricades that can aid him and his allies. He can crush foes under mountains of dirt, or simply squish them, or even remove the air surrounding their bodies so that they cannot breathe and suffocate to death. This all comes at a cost, however. Anything he does with his telekinesis costs him as much energy as it would if he had done it with his arms. And if he has no energy left, then it costs him his health. Too much too fast may even kill the Telekinesist, even if his foe dies.

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless
[2024-5-06. : 5:02 am]
Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort
[2024-5-06. : 12:51 am]
Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
