I was thinking of a cool concept for an rts that i've never seen before. The main element in the map would revolve around pregnancy and equipping men with weapons rather than 'building' troops. You would not be able to make any units in the map...instead you start with x Men(scv) and x Women(probe). When a timer ticks a random number of your women would become pregnant (turned to medics with only enough energy to heal about 5hp). After two more ticks they would give birth and create a terran Civilian - Child. After another time tick the child would randomly become a woman or man. A tick would be about 2.5 minutes.
A unique resource would be food. You have to feed your population or they died when the clock ticks to zero. This would be done with making buildings like farm - supply depot, chicken coop - turret, pig farm - cy core. OR I was thinking you would actually create animals for your men and women to kill for food points. This method has a pro in that you have more to do with your growing population (animals have high hp/armor so more units attacking it the better) but the cons are that people could use these animals as scouts and the gameplay would be too annoying...having to contastly be killing animals more and more as you get more units.
In the map you would have 5k gas and once you make a certain building designated as the armory your gas would go to 4999 so you cant make another one until that oen is dead. You would build weapons at other buildings and they would be placed in your armory. By bringing a man to your armory he would be moved offscreen near a dropship menu where you choose what you want to equip him with.
Mercenaries would also be hireable from neutral buildings but they would take two food as opposed to the one food that all other units you can create take.
Since the element of randomness is so prevelent the units would have to be set up so that someone who gets screwed on pregnancy early game is not doomed to lose by someone whose population bore more children early on.
The food would work in that each tick a food counter would be removed (you get them when you make a food biuldings or food unit). A value would be added to anothr DC to save the food value. Also when you create units via pregnancy or mercs you would get +1 or +2 to civilization counter...this would work since you cant actually create any units other than through pregnancy so it would be easy to track this counter. A civilization counter would be moved to a save value counter. When the food reaches zero...a unit would be killed (starvation) until civilization = food. Then the values will be reset.
Resources could be uniue like I did in the age of empires map. i did with fishing, lumber camps, and ways to create mineral patches...good option with the large number of workers you will have.
I imagine you could turn a man into a militia without any equipment if you want to rush or stop an early rush. Also just using men and women to fight early game would be viable. i think this would be fun as shit. I'm not going to make it...maybe play with it because I'm working on another map for the RTS thingy.
I forsee some interesting/brutal tatics such as attacks on an opponents agriculture or trying to kill all of his women and children. If a population has no women it is destined to die! FUN! =]
Also i know this post is riddled with misspellings but some wierd thign happens when i type long posts here. The text window FORCES me to view the first words i type so as the post gets longer all i see is ext trying to be at the bottom and then the window shooting up to the top. It's anoying as shit.
