Map editor problems with vista 64bit

So I've predominantly used starforge/xtra editor (used to use zap a long time ago) and am not too familiar with proedit and uberation (tried using it cant figure it out really). I tried installing starforge but it requires me to have my starcraft cd which I don't have anymore because I registered my cd key under the new battle.net system which doesn't require you to use a cd anymore. So then I tried installing sc xtra editor and that wont even load for me. So truthfully I can only use scmdraft which I don't care for very much which also bugs out for me every now and then.

So my questions are:
1. How can I fix the starforge install problem?
2. How can i get scxe to work? (tried downloading it from 2 different locations and both didn't work)
3. Any other ideas on what I can do is appreciated.

Why don't you like using SCMdraft? Because of the bugs?

And I'm pretty sure you don't need to use the CD for starforge. Does it come up with a box asking for it or a file or something? Try pointing it at the place you installed SC.

it eated my map. >:( lol. but seriously the first time i used (recently) it completely screwed with my settings on the map that opened with it and had to go back into regular staredit (yes i was desperate enough to use it :-( ) to fix stuff. However it did seem like a one time thing. I just haven't used it since. I've been gone from the map making scene for a few years now and I never used scmdraft back then so idk I guess I'm just more used to starforge.

Well, I suggest you try a recent version. Anyway, what does SF say when you start it without a CD?

ok i dl'ed the version on sen. its a lot different from the version i got off of creep colony :-_-: however. now im getting an error saying: "could not open stardat.mpq!" so i click ok and then it tells me "spritesload failed!" then it says "there was an error loading sprites. this is most likely because starforge can't find stardat.mpq please specify location" so then I do that..then it says "your registery settings have been updated please restart starforge" so I restart and it repeats...i tried running it in a separate folder and also in the starcraft folder but neither work :-(

--edit--
by the way yeah i'm using 2.2 (i think thats the most recent. not sure)

Looks like you have to wait for starforge ultimate.

Otherwise, try the latest version of SCMDraft, and live with/report any bugs.

"your registery settings have been updated please restart starforge" - That just means that starforge found your stardat file and everytime you run the program it will look to where you said your stardat file is. Of course if you got a file that is corrupted, then that process will keep repeating on you. Did you try reinstalling starcraft?

It is the trigger editor, do you have a recent version of scm draft. If you want the trigger editor from the campaign, it is classic trigger editor.

@starforge 2.2: i have the battle.net starcraft installer (the one you can download from www.battle.net after you register your cd key) it makes it so you dont need to cd anymore to play. thats what i have installed right now. idk if the fact that i cant install starforge stems from that though.

@scmdraft2: yeah i have the most recent version. is the trigger editor the string editor? im so confused with this. :(

--edit--
the starcraft campaign editor doesnt let me fool around with ai scripts thats what i ment when i was talking about triggers. sorry for the confusion.

1. Yes, that is probably why, because when you copy the file from the disc, i believe it is archived, though I am not sure what files you replaced. If you replaced the broodat.mpq and stardat.mpq then that is the core of your problem.

2. I dont have scmdraft installed in my computer anymore, but if I remember, there was classic trigedit, classic mission briefs, trigedit, and mission briefs. For now you want to use classic trigedit. The strings editor is just something to edit custom names you used. Unless you want to test colors in your texts, ignore the strings editor.

As for the ai scripts, only some of them work, and it is under the classic trigedit, the trigger is under actions - run ai script at location, if that is what you mean.

meh well I guess it makes sense that when blizzard released a downloadable cd-less starcraft there would be some conflictions. I guess I will just have to wait for starforge ultimate :)

--edit--
oh and apparently i did have the most current version of scmdraft but i just wasnt using it for some reason lol. the non-updated one didnt have a triggers and mission briefing editor but the current version does

Yeah, you were missing the trigedit plugin then. Without it ScmDraft loses a lot of its usefulness.

Also an early 0.8.0 is quite stable (starforge not), virtually never corrupts maps (sf is infamous for that) if you stay under 1024 strings - and if it does you have a backup database (big advantage), has a very nice UI and can do almost everything sf can and more.

So if you had any bad experience with ScmDraft you should forget about it and give the version from stormcoast fortress a chance. It could take months before sf2 is publicly usable.

Sylph-Of-Space -- It would be so so so nice if SCMDraft had some kind of dedicated "walkability" view for the tilesets.
