Dear Reader,
Today was an interesting day. After a little consideration of the happenings on the farms outside of town, the people came to a relatively solid decision to lynch payne. Payne screamed nonsense at the top of his lungs, but it did not distract the town from their deadly purpose. One other thing, however, did.
As the guillotine was readied, lil-Inferno the Sheriff ran forward, screaming that there could be no vigilante justice and that there should be a trial first. Grudgingly, the town agreed, and cleared the square so that a makeshift court could be established with the sheriff serving as the judge.
“First we shall assemble the twenty-four jurors,” began lil-Inferno.
“Fourteen,” corrected someone in the crowd. “We need twelve jurors and two alternates.”
“Fourteen, twenty-four, whatever...” muttered a voice in the crowd. “Let's get this stinkin' trial on with.”
With the correct number of fourteen jurors seated in the jury box, the trial was convened, and payne was brought before the town. It was relatively quickly determined that he could not prove his whereabouts the past two nights, which was evidence enough for the restless town. The guillotine blade was sharpened, and payne was led to it, where his head was sliced off.
Our wrath somewhat appeased, we return to bed now to wait out the night and the retribution of the mafia for taking one of their own.
