@Tass/Zera: Most likely wouldn't work too well. :/

@NudeRaider: Beyond the obvious secondary uses for Pylons and Overlords, if military units are given to the secondary player, there wouldn't be a huge call for more supply, since (to my recollection) there's no way to add an ally's supply count to your own.

Why not? All you're doing is replacing the buildings in the map with stacked units, then using a mod to add triggers to turn the stacked units back into buildings. Then you can run that gametype where you share units with your allies. Although I just realized there is no way to do briefings...

I only suggested to give the units for Zerg. But if supply is such an issue for you no one stops you from giving hatches and the necessary techs to the secondary player.

That'd take an extra mod for each map, because of the triggers on them.

Thanks to KrayZee, I can now extract the Brood War maps. I have some pretty good ideas as to what to do for some of the maps (not all of them, yet, though), as well.

Once I've extracted all of them and added the neccisary sounds (no briefing or story-related, but some small ones like "Crap, this landing site doesn't have any gas!", so people don't have to download series' of 1.5 meg maps), I'll start putting together a team to help multiplayer-ize them.

I recommend making 2 versions. A light version with few to no sounds and a full version with everything. Possibly even cinematics saved as avis or something.

Nowadays it's no problem to download a 100mb package somewhere. You can include links to it in the light version.

Speaking for myself I am *much* more impressed by a campaign and motivated to play it if is has sound, music, and/or videos.

Dec 8 2008, 9:46 pm Grand_dracolich Post #27

That's what I was going to do, but the majority of the sounds have to be added to the finished version of the maps, to save a heck of a lot of work.

It's quite slow going, at the moment. Apparantly, SCMDraft doesn't simply disable Transmission actions if it's sound is deleted, and apparantly Transmission actions without sounds crash Starcraft . I hope people won't mind gratuitous use of ComBeep0 for the light version.

Just open a sound recording program with no microphone plugged in, press "record", wait like 1 second, stop recording, and save. You now have a totally black but valid sound file. Use that instead of ComBeep0.

I'll use that for certain things ComBeep0 is really terrible with (but certain things need some sound playing), but 1 full second seems a little long.

Audacity > File > New > Generate > Silence > 0.1 > Profit. :P

use one of these virtual sounds:
sound\Bullet\PhoAtt00.wav
sound\Bullet\tbaFir00.wav

They're also silent and don't increase map size. They still take one string however.

Dec 9 2008, 3:10 am Grand_dracolich Post #31

Thanks. With the standard campaign maps, I don't think the string limit will be a problem. ;)

Edit: Vanilla Zerg maps extracted. I just need to add the needed sounds and fix those dang crashes, and the vanilla maps are realy to be multiplayer-ized. Should be done later today, but it's mildly tedious, and I should test them (beginning to end) before I call them finished.

Done. All vanilla campaign maps are extracted, have Brood War units and upgrades disabled, and have non-story sounds loaded.

Would anyone like to help me multiplayer-ize them? 30 maps is more than I could handle, not counting Brood War maps (which I'll start on once the vanilla maps are done). I'll start multiplayer-izing Zerg 2, as a beta, then I'll post a production thread with screenshots.

Edit: Hm... For some reason, SCMDraft's (and GUEdit's) player color-changing tool isn't working. I switched the Hunter Killers to player 5 (so it'd be second slot, in the game room, and so the beacon at the end of Zerg2 is rescuable as usual), and changed the color to red, but it's showing up orange, in-game.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

Make the map scx. No other way.
Also keep in mind scm maps support only up to 64 locations.

Thanks, it works! Once I've tested it online and gotten some in-game screenshots, I'll put up the production thread and the one finished map as a beta.

Man, it sure is fun going through the middle path with just the 6 Hunter Killers, lol.
