My grandma uses McAfee virus protection and got an alert message the other day saying she had a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). She said the file name was MVV.exe (M V V not MW), She ran a full virus scan and it said the PUP was gone, then an hour later it came back. She got this the second time from opening up AIM (AOL Instant Messenger). Does anyone have an answer or a suggestion for her?

Well I googled mvv.exe and it looks like the file is a trojan downloader. If the virus scan didn't delete the file, maybe you could use search and look for the file itself and delete it.. Or maybe she needs to update her virus definitions? Other than that, I'm unsure of what you could do other than getting a different virus protection program.

Macafee is good but i have a tiny hatred for any security you have to purchase. You can find safe protection for free, granted you sometimes need a few of them it works out. If it is a trojan just find a utility that is specific for trojans.
