New York State Job requirements

I didn't want to look this up because I only have 15 minutes on the library computer, and it takes a very long time to research for me, so this is the first place I came to, so I can quickly post this and check it out in a couple days or so.

well, I wasn't too sure, but as of right now, I make money mowing my neighborhood's lawns, and handing out cards saying Mike's Landscaping Business with my phone number on it because it doesn't require anything special to do. But now my mom is kicking me out for reasons I don't want to discuss, and ill be staying with my girlfriend for 3 days and my friend for another 5 days. So I need to get a real job or something like that so I can pay my friend for living with him after a couple weeks. but I have a couple questions.

In order to get a job and all, do you have to have work papers from school? I'm also a minor, seventeen years old, with a learners permit at the moment. If you live in NYS, or know anything about getting a job, could you enlighten me on what you know about it. I didn't really think of getting an actual job because the lawn mowing business was working fine for me since last year, but now I would have to ride my bike 14 miles everyday to mow a couple lawns and leave, it would seem more convenient to get a job close by.

If anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!

You had time to type all that on SEN instead of googling it which would've taken less than a minute?

I don't know about NYS, but I live in NYC and all I needed for my job when I was 17 was my SSN.

Isn't it illegal for you to be kicked out if you're a minor?

Yes, yes it is.

It's also illegal to mow people's lawns for money (or any significant amount of money) unless you are filing Schedule C with your Form 1040.

lets put all that legal stuff aside and help me get a job.

If I was mowing a persons lawn, a cop won't pull me over and tell me to stop mowing it...

If a company is interested in employing you, they should be able to tell you what forms you need.

I imagine it is similar to California, where in some cases you need a work permit (available from school); otherwise you just need to file a Form W-4 with your employer just like anyone else.

The police aren't going to arrest you for mowing lawns, but if the IRS ever decides to audit you, you could be fined thousands of dollars. Of course it's not likely, but it's possible.

Mowing a lawn isn't illegal. Me giving money to people simply for being or doing nice things isn't illegal (so long as they aren't affiliated with any business or something)... but getting kicked out of your home at the age of 17 is, but I guess you have your reasons for not discussing this.

Typically employers/companies will need your Social Security Number. Some may also want your drivers license but that really depends. I imagine that you wouldn't need paper work from school unless the employers are wanting proof that you have at least a high school degree.

In general to get a job you need to fill out the application forms they (the companies) provide. They like to hire people with work or volunteer experience especially ones that pertain to their type of job. Your mission statement and education is also important. However the problem with this is that it'll take anywhere from a couple weeks or month before you actually begin work and perhaps even longer until you get your pay check. So if you want quick money, then your best bet would be to do "chores" like lawn mowing, giving private lessons, etc etc.

my friend says he will give me a couple weeks to find a job before i start paying his mom rent. And I don't think a company will be interested unless I am a bit aggressive on getting the job with the required paperwork and stuff I need. If I was to try and get a job, I want to have a bit of knowledge on how to get one before I try. I hear It is hard to get a job during these times by the way. And thanks MilllenniumArmy for understanding what I was trying to get at. :)

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

Just sue your parents for money and you're done.
At least till you're 18 :hurr:

fuck you all

What would I sue them for lol. If I sued them for kicking a minor out, they would just find me a new home. I don't want that lol

After 16 years old you do not need working papers. Just go apply for a job man. I live in NYS.

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Ultraviolet -- Vrael
Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
