I'm currently working on a map, and i want to use vHP for realisticy, and cant figure out the best way to do it
I know i can use over 5 humans, and i was also wondering whats good for vHP for computers that reach nearly 100

How many units are you using this vHP for?

Maybe not the best (would need more info on the map to decide that) but the standard method is to make the player's main unit invincible and have it followed by a bunch of burrowed lings.

5 Humans [ability to change weapon applies, so thats about 20 units]
96 Zombies [maybe around 48 locations]
a Zombie styled map, but not Resident Evil, more like my own work, and when the zombies die, they either drop an item or something of other importance [like a key]

Also, burrowed lings might work for my convinence, but i've seen maps with invincible units, and whenever u attack with the invinced, the enemy runs away :(

Don't have the hero be invincible then, just 99999 HP. (Yes, there are 5 9s.)

That way the main unit would also get attacked. So you have to ally the players to the zombies (not vice-versa!).

Wait, r u saying if u ally the zombies and u are invinced, they wont run?
what if u have them ally u and keep ur unit uninvinced but not ally the ling under?

Right. The Zerglings are owned by a seperate computer player.

The zombies are your enemies, but they consider you a friend, so they don't attack you (even if you are attacking them and are not invincible).
The zombies only consider the lings as enemy, so they only attack the lings. But they won't run from you when you are attacking them when you are not invincible.

Well, Not really. The Zombies may attack you in retaliation.

Player 1: Hero
Player 2: Enemy
Player 9: Counter

Switch 1 is set, Move Two ZERGLING owned by Player 9 to location HERO
Always Center location HERO on Player 1 Terran Marine

Player 9 suffers at least one death of Zerg Zergling.
Set death count of Zerg Zergling to 0.
Set switch 1.
Switch 1 is cleared.
Create 2 Zerg Zergling at location HERO.

Alliance Scripts:
P1 allies P9, enemies to P2.
P2 allies P1, enemies to P9

Result:

It will minimize the use of units constantly underneath your unit, this reducing "unit slowdown".
Virtual HP for the Hero Unit.

Your unit will attack the enemy.
The enemy will attack P9.
And every shot P9 gets, you lose one "vHP".

If you have a Computer player who is being trigger allied to a Human player, and the Computer player is attacked by one of the human player's units, the Computer player will temporarily attack the human player's unit. This has been tested, and it does happen. Make a test map, or ask me for one.

You think I don't know that? I'm telling you it's not a problem, the zergling enemies (to the enemies) take priority.

Mar 8 2009, 9:10 am Pyro682 Post #16

First of all, Goliaths take priority, so it all depends on what the unit is. Secondly, I never said it was a problem (though it may be one, depending on the unit). I said it happened (also depending on the unit).

Perhaps you should have elaborated a bit more than just :

Nope

Because, I interpreted it as you saying that they just plain didn't attack, under any extenuating circumstances.

At any rate, FooFighter, Here's what I suggest you do.
Have a location over the playing area. Center a Player location over each player's hero (That makes 5 locations total.) Your best bet is to go with the burrowed lings that we have all discussed. If you have 4 Weapons (unit changes), then I suggest you use a Gateway casting system to detect when players want to change their weapon.
If it is more than 4, I suggest using a Spell Casting system, much like The one in Spellsword, in which each weapon type gets its own Cast Area. Those are the two most efficient ways for your map, in my opinion.

As for the dropping of Items, I suggest you go with a Death Counter. You can easily randomize that, just have more possibilities for lesser items (or no items at all). To control it so there is only 1 key dropped (if you want), have a secondary condition checking to see if a key is already obtained. For a Quick Read on how to randomize using death counters, click This. (The section applying to you is near the bottom.)
