It happens like every 15-30 minutes. It just disconnects and then reconnects. What is the problem and how can I fix it?
None.
This is like so broad. You could have bad wiring and would need to call your isp to check. maybe someone is making phone calls with a cordless phone nearby. Maybe you have wireless lan and the phone company is improving infrastructure.
I am a Mathematician
OMGOSH!
This exact problem keeps happening to me too! What provider and router do you have?
None.
Most likely a router problem. Try taking it out and seeing if you still disconnect.
None.
Time Warner cable and Netgear.
I was out yesterday and when I came back, my brother played around with the wiring and everyone's internet works except for mine. It says it is connected, but I can't go to any sites. My IP address even changed to something really different.
None.
Does your ethernet cord go straight to the router? How far away are you?
None.
I found the problem. My Netgear modem is fuzzled up. I can connect directly, but not through Netgear.
None.
You mean your netgear router? Because you can only directly connect to the modem ;o

Yeah, my netgear router. I got confused with router and modem.

You could try resetting the router to default and maybe upgrade firmware.
Otherwise it's turning into crap.
They eventually die. Or overheat and ruin themselves. Or they are a piece of shit to start with (new linksys routers). Find a good new router through reviews.

I have a similar problem, except its after a few hours, it will will randomly shut off and come back on over and over. Would that be overheating, because after I restart my computer it stops that cycle.

I can't reset it. The customer service in the NETGEAR forum is stupid. Kept telling me to unplug it, I said I already did and he stopped answering.

There should be like a little button somewhere that's a little bit into the router that you just hold for a while and it will reset.
Or you could go into the router page and there should also be an option to restore the router to factory defaults. There should also be an option to upgrade firmware somewhere too. Make sure you know what settings need to be set again, though I don't think you have to worry about anything.

LOL! I hate that, when you try to get their service and find out that you know more about the product than the "service"
Usually routers have one of those little holes with the tiny button inside that you have to shove a toothpick into the hole to get to it, if you hold that for 5 seconds or so it should reset completely.

I usually have to unplug it for ~40 seconds to reset it.

Yeah, thats the way to do it with most routers.
