Apparently my own isp, time warner, wants to limit users to 5 gigs a month. I would lol and get another provider.
If they are trying to save network resources, attack spammers or something.

That's ridiculous, if you're going to give them the ability to download at all, don't waste time with your hub by idling once they read 5 gigs :P

It's going to fail hard. If they try to impose their caps widespread, they'll see massive drops in subscription. My dad declared he would just switch ISPs if TWC put caps on.

I get their 35megabit speed, and it fails to mention a download cap. Uhoh

I don't think anyone has actually set caps yet, except for Comcast, who set it to the reasonable amount of 250GBs.

At least (sorry, advertising) TPG Internet gives us something like 20Gb per-month, which isn't bad. However, they don't apply a cap (who would with 20GB to use!!!!) but do charge over-bandwidth and do throttle your download speed slightly, but, in the long run it's worth it.

Uh, I can use 20 gigs in one month easy.

Pr0nz, Illegal downloads, Movies, Entire CD's it all adds up. If you downloaded two cds a day for a month you'll probably hit 10gb with just that.

Cable in my area (Vidéotron) does cap downloads to 20 GB, and most people still pay up, mostly because cable has broader reach outside the Montreal area. 20 GB is more than enough for most, but I'd probably go over the limit, I do at least 3 GB per week, often more. I'm using uncapped DSL, thankfully.

Well, just think of all the crap you load on the internet, all the videos, images, and just plain text, it adds up pretty quickly.

Could you just change you IP, or would it still register your download amount?

None.

Nov 30 2008, 6:21 pm fatimid08 Post #12

The download registers to your username, so whatever IP you have, it still gets tracked.

Fail. :P

I guess if you want more you can always for an additional account/whatever.

In Canada, cable service provider Rogers Cable gives you 10GB download for $30CAN. Upgrade to $50 and you get 100GB downloads and just under 3x the speed. :omfg:

This is why you don't get DSL.
(Remember, its monthly)

sounds like moisture control is often a pressing concern in your city
