Well I was looking at some of my old maps earlier and I found a map where I accidently had it where I could only move in places where there was no fog of war. So it gave me the idea to make a Snipers map where you cant get into your enemy base unless you create these "Lights" to travel in the dark, otherwise you get lost. Idk If it will work. Just an Idea.

I could see it where you set up the battlefield like Star Wars Battlefield with different check points you could take control of, which would then give you light over the next area.
You would need the check points to have enough light to allow you to see the next check points of course.
You could accomplish this with pre-placed map revealers for a neutral computer that would then either be given to you, or recreated for your team.

This made me think of a whole new idea. It could be an arena map where the fog of war is gone and you know how the terrain looks like. Before the game starts, you have to hotkey your unit (defiler) and then the lights go off. When you move, your screen centers on that location so you know where you are. You dark swarm on a place on the map, and whenever there is a dark swarm, a unit made by like p8 which everyone has allied view of is created. That unit dies, giving temporary vision to the surrounding guys. Dark swarm the enemy defilers to win XD

It has been done. Infact, its just a defiler shooter system revamped.

I srsly doubt that it has.

Well I kinda started doing this and realized that the units could get to enemy base easier. This is because the fog of war hides your unit, but this doesnt mean u still cant control you unit. All you have to do is click on enemy base and you get there w/o being attacked until you reach the base. (Sorry if my typing is bad... the rock music in the bg is getting to me...)

How did you make it so that the units can't go into fog of war?

@SoL: You can still be targeted if the other player can see you. FoW is not the same for all players. :P

If the units have vision, then it's not possible to go into fog of war; you will be able to see it, so it won't be fog of war anymore.

I've made a map on this idea a while back.

However, it was slightly different in style.

Players had control of a Terran Ghost. They would walk across "buildings" and such trying to kill each other. Power stations supplied by power grids could be turned on and off. Certain combos got the whole city "Lit up". Occasionally there will be a power surge and/or blackout, and players could sabotage the lighting systems.

Disconnecting powerlines was also possible (this glitched abit however).

Regardless, players would have a small vision sensor (I beleive it was burrowed zerg defiler or an observer without upgrades).

The map should be somewhere in my download folder, but I probably won't find it. The download folder has over 5000 maps. :( :><:

Turn Shared Vision OFF For Player scripts. Unvision a player with himself, and he can't see anything. Share vision another player to him, though, and you can control his FoW by placing units for the other player.

Exactly what I used. The only problem is hotkeys. You can hotkey a unit that is not in the FoW.

Luckily for me, mine was a sniper map and therefore, easier to use, since people in "Blackout" areas were not visible. Advantageous even because one could not see another in a "Blackout" area and had to proceed with caution.
