There aren't really any general tutorials, you have to get familiar with the editor by opening up maps you have downloaded and look at what triggers do and such. That is of course assuming you know how to get to the triggers window. Staredit is the best beginning editor just because it doesn't have all the extra features that might confuse beginning mappers.

If your just talking about learning triggers I would suggest looking at simple mass/madness maps and defense maps (although some defense maps will have some more difficult techniques) generally any matrix d game will be simple as they are all move triggers and spawn triggers.

I just remembered that Blizzard did make a Staredit guide that shows you the basics of what everything in the editor does but finding one of the guides may or may not be difficult as I'm not sure if they come in the newer Battle Chests or not.

Like someone else said if you have any specific questions ask away everyone here is willing to help out.

for a general idea about how to use the editor, just open unprotected UMS maps and study how they do things.
Triggers are simple: each one has 2 parts - conditions and actions, which will execute if the conditions are met. Add Preserve Trigger to the actions if you want the trigger to be used more than once.

Often triggers will use locations, which are made by going into the locations layer (ctrl + L), and clicking and dragging. Locations are used when you want to make a trigger that spawns units there (madness maps), or to create a unit at another location by moving a chooser (defenses and arenas).

To make square terrain like you see in many maps, you will need to use SCMDraft or StarForge.

Learning from other maps is the best way, I would also recommend getting SCM Draft2, which can be gotten here: http://Falkoner.CoW.GooglePages.com/Programs.html This also has a bunch of other useful programs.

Lol you don't need a tutorial for SC mapping, just toy around with the editor for a few days.

for more advanced triggers, you need to find a tutorial or look at another map that has them
