Problem with Windows Live Messenger

I try to open it up, same as always, but now nothing happens. I click on start menu and I notice that it takes ages to appear. Open up Ctr+Alt+Del and I see that msnmsgr.exe is eating up 99% of CPU. I leave it for about 10 mins and no windows apear. I restart computer, problem persists... I reinstalling, problem persists... Do a virus/spyware scan, comes up with nothing. I LOG INTO MY MOM'S USER NAME AND IT WORKS... I dont mean her Windows Live Messenger username, i mean the username that exist on this computer. This makes no sence, it works on her side of the computer and not on mine? It used to work just fine before, Ive installed nothing new and this problem just now jumped up.

Anyone got a clue why this happens?
AND NO, I DO NOT HAVE VISTA.

Are you running other programs while running messenger (like Outlook)? Are you administrator of the computer?

Try uninstall and then reinstall.

Check to see that you don't have a firewall that is blocking Messenger. Firewalls are usually set by account and your mother might have given permission for Messenger to bypass the firewall.

Select the proccess as shown in the screenshot, and click end process. Ignore all the garbage about losing data and click end process again. Try to start messenger again.

Seeing as how none of my computers have Admin//Limited accounts, I wouldn't know much on this subject, but what Beer sugests seems very reasonable. Give it a shot.

Yes! Get trillian! It's very nice if you have a lot of different messaging applications.

If you want a more full-featured alternative to the official client, there is aMSN. Other clients I've seen don't support any of the more advanced features at all (offline messages is one of the important ones that other programs don't support, in my opinion -- without it, you can miss a lot of messages, sometimes even if you aren't offline).

I am not switching. My sisters and my mom use this computer as well and if i get rid of windows Live, they will beat the living crap out of me

@Beer_Keg: I only have the firewall that comes with windows. I looked in the exeption list and Windows Live Messenger was on it. I disabled the firewall and tried running without it but I still get same exact problem.

Yes, my user account is an Admin, as well as my mom's.

Alternative programs do not replace the official program. You can even run them at the same time if you want, being logged into multiple different accounts at once.

If you do want to try an alternative program and want one as close to the official client as possible (either in features or appearance) then I'd recommend aMSN. (I've tried it out myself since the time I mentioned it above)

Yes, I know that they dont replace the actual thing. What I meant by "getting rid of Windows Live" was having to make my sisters and mom use a new program when they are used to the old one. Trust me, NOT a good idea.

Doesn't it work on your moms account? Just not yours?
