Hi, my aunt just recently gave me her Dell Inspiron 1100. I installed starcraft, but it only runs at what seems to be 480x600 (or whatever closest to that). I was wondering how I should go about fixing that

No, you cannot change the Starcraft resoultion without a hack.

If you could it will give you a wider view thus creating a view advantage during the game.

You stuck with 640x480.

Well, there is a way to, and its not really a hack. More of an exploit. But I'm not going to post it because it might be against the rules.

Theres a way to view the Starcraft in a windowed version, using a program called 'Chaos Launcher'. It can also track your apm ingame and autosave replays. Other than that there are latency upgrades which lets you be able to play at a latency similar to UDP speeds.

Starcraft has always run at 640x480 :P

But yeah, like said above you can't change it; the best thing you can do is run it windowed so you don't have huge pixels.

Oh, what i'm running at must be smaller then. I'm not trying to increase the size of the game's given view, it's just that there is still 2 inches of black space on each side of the monitor, even though everything else I do outside of the game the interface fills the screen.

If your screen is widescreen, then thats how it's supposed to run. Starcraft does not have extended visuals- of course you can widen the screen yourself with your monitor, but it'll look wierd.

If there are two inches of black space on the sides, its not widescreen. It must be your PC resolution. I'm not sure why this would happen because SC sets your resolution to 640x480 when the game launches. Try adjusting your monitor settings. I have a Inspiron 9300 that it works fine on.

Yes, it is... Starcraft isn't programmed to fill that aspect ratio so it leaves it black rather than distending your image and making it look ugly.

the two inches is all around, not just the sides. And what seems to be happening is that SC is playing at the same resolution that Diablo II does when you lauch it in window mode. The difference is that SC still takes the entire screen, but only displaying at the size of the window mode. Normally, Starcraft would run full screen, albeit slightly more pixilated, just as when D2 is in full screen, it's more pixilated than window mode.

My desktop resolution is set at 1024x768.

Adjust your monitors. It's not that hard.

Right click on your desktop, and find the option for graphics properties that has the option: Full Screen (no border)

Its a lot harder on a laptop than on a desktop. No awesome buttons to push.

Wouldn't widescreen create black spaces on the top and bottom, not the left and right?
Mess with your monitor settings (If you know how.) Try to change your desktop resolution to 640x480. (Although I don't think that will make a difference because SC changes it when its launched anyway.)

Uhh no? A normal aspect ratio painted canvas on a widescreen monitor leaves extra space on the sides. It's the opposite of the letterbox effect.

So yeah, my monitor IS "adjusted". The screen is full when I'm not playing SC. And I don't think it's widescreen, that's why it has borders all around. Just for some reason, SC is playing at a lower resolution than it should. I created a shortcut and tried to change the resolution to run at, but to no avail. Changing my desktop to 640x480 is probably the last thing I would do because I'm not quite willing to change my resolution everytime I want to play SC because.. well, who can really stand that resolution at desktop mode anymore anyway?

Anyway, I'll probably just end up dealing with how it is, if I could find the printpage button on this laptop I could show you easier, but I have no idea where the hell it is, lol. Anyway, off to work soon, be back in 14 hours T-T

OH!
Ic wut u ded thar!

I was under the impression that Letterbox was widescreen. Because it creates the illusion that the screen is wider (moar width plz) because it has the empty space on the top and bottom. Now I realize, that is, indeed, letterbox.

I like full screen better anyways.

If you print screen, the black areas around it aren't technically part of the screen, they don't count towards the resolution.

I had the same problem on my laptop a LONG time ago, and sorry I don't remember if / how I fixed it.

Did you see my solution...
That is how you do it, I had the same type of laptop as you have.

If you don't see it in rightclick menu, poke around in Control Panel->Display->Settings->Advanced
Something about screen fitting, intel.
