Starport Missile Launcher Prototype

Decided to take a breather from AG and try out an impulse idea. Starport Missile Launching. To use, select your Starport, Right Click to set its Rally point, and then hotkey 'w' (Wraith build) to fire. Wraiths fly out from the Starport to the rally point as neutral units and then, upon colliding with targets, destroy them. They also disappear naturally after they stop moving if there's no target for them to hit, too (that was the tricky part to implement, actually).

I'm thinking of making this into a defense map, but surely there are other uses for it as well. I'll set up a subforum on warbox after I've decided how viable the concept is, and whether I want to follow through with turning it into a finished map or not.

Meanwhile, try it out and lemme know what you think!

lol, I like the idea. I instantly see this being combined with Bonelesskid's bombing of the city map. (Missile defence ect.)
Simple yet elegant, brilliant concept.

Let me show you how to hump without making love.

It would be fun as fuck to play it. But I demand a spawner!

Oh. Yeah that's kinda what the defense map I'm making it for will have.

Thing is, I don't want to spend endless gobs of time on this like with AG. But I don't think I should have to, fortunately. I'll post my current plan for this soon, though.

Yeah I think this concept was used in Wing-of-no-Wing's map. I agree with rantent on the bonelesskid statement, that would be great.

It reminds me of the airstriking system I have in that one map I haven't worked on since v4 died... The only differences are that you don't use the rally point to target and the wraith isn't the missile.

It looks like a big ass cannon that you gotta aim and then fire. Not a bad idea, although it goes better for a defend the city/foretress map than a typical defense one. I love maps with a bit of story ^^

?????

Go go differentiation between AA and AG missiles.

I'm just making a basic defense map with the idea first. Not looking to go all out like I did with AG.

I'll post the basic triggers and usage instructions if anyone wants to port it to their maps for their own use.

How did you manage to make them continue to move, but also make them unselectable at the same time?

C'mon Tux, I want to know for future reference, because currently I know no way of deselecting that doesn't also cancel any orders in the process.

Giving a unit to a neutral player does that I believe.

Hey tuxlar if you can give me the triggers via pm I would like to work with this idea with a different building and unit.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

Falkoner... Even Tuxlar uses known methods. Please think yourself before posting for 30 seconds and I bet, you would have known how he did that... You're Falkoner...

BTW, the final target can be detected fastest with the new inverted location thing... I would say that it takes only 1/8 game second to detect the stopped wraith movement, if the inverted location has the size of the wraith... :O

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless
[05:02 am]
Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value
[05:01 am]
Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort
[2024-5-06. : 12:51 am]
Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
