how you ladies doin tonight??

Lol how foolish of me. Well, thanks for keepin your cool.
Anyway a military superpower is not what I was thinking. An organized force under the command of the United Nations, possibly. I believe human actions are the most important factor of history. Human actions are what decide the outcome of our civilization. Geography impedes or increases physical progress of relations between countires, countries which were created by human actions. Our nation's military has been sent into Iraq because our society is so heavily influenced by the media and the government is so heavily controlled by corporations. Now we see it again as we prep to enter Iran. Our nation runs the way it does because of these super corporations that influence media and government more than the people who work in government or media.

Hmm interesting. If any corporation influences our government its Microsoft. I have a great resent of most corporations and maybe capitalism altogether. I don't see how we're in Iraq because of a corporation(s) decision though. The only good it does is for Colt, Blackwater, and other construction corporations there for rebuilding. I believe we(the public) are influenced by some corporations and the media is influenced by liberal opinions probably because the higher-ups are liberal. (Obviously except Fox) I believe that the opinion that we should retreat is driven by false facts and statements by the public and spread by the media.

Higher-ups are liberal? The media is liberal?
Do you have any evidence whatsoever to back your viewpoint? Do you even know what Colt and Blackwater are doing in Iraq and how they make their money? Blackwater is a mercenary company. Blackwater is a 'defense contractor'; Blackwater agents are paramilitary (MEN WITH GUNS). They make a profit off of Iraq. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

In all honesty, I believe that article goes a bit too far for my tastes. Firstly, taxes do a lot more than just funding our quagmire. They also pay for education, social security, health care, "positive" aspects of the government and more. Refusing to pay taxes simply because you disagree with one piece of the pie doesn't make sense. And by your logic, not paying taxes is just as immoral as paying them. While the acts of Dr. King and Gandhi can still be applied to the present, the kinds of action suggested here don't make sense.
Also, there is some irony in the article: "We face a crisis. Our democratic institutions are being dismantled. We are headed for a state of perpetual war. We are paralyzed by fear. We will be stripped, if we do not resist, of our few remaining rights." Isn't this attempting to manipulate the reader with fear? Overall, I don't think this article is really a good example of what is going on in the country and with the war. It's focuses far too much on opinion and tends to take more of an extreme point of view. Yes, I'll give you that the war is mess, but this isn't the way to go about fixing it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

People care when it affects them, or if they perceive that it will affect them. For those that have the potential to care, they either lack leadership or confidence in the a leadership's direction. There are many, many "issues" in the world, and to stick your head out into that river rapid can be overwhelming. Global warming? Plenty of debate over whether it's even caused by us in a significant way (polar ice caps are melting on Mars and other planets/moons, indicating the itself Sun might be to blame). Starving children in Africa? Well, why do the parents keep having dozens of children? Deforestation of the rainforest? Endangered species? Voting fraud? Media manipulation? Taxes for the rich? Taxes for the poor? America's underfunded, undervalued education system? America's shitty health care system? Black rights? Gay rights? Prisoner rights? War in Country X? Women's Rights in Country Y? Persecution? Tyranny? Free Tibet? *breath* Where should one start? As people are bombarded by one cause after another, apathy grows.
