It seems like Ubisoft Montreal fixed a lot of problems from Far Cry 2, and brings the nostalgia from the first Far Cry. And did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?

That bad guy's voice is awesome. The voice actor for him did a great job. I've never played Far Cry; this looks fun.

Far Cry 2... Wasn't THAT bad. It wasn't a spot on the first one. But still it looked nice and played nice, just lacked story content.

This, on the other hand, has just raised the fucking bar for every single RPG/FPS I've ever come across. Cannot. Fucking. Wait.

Edit: Also I am disappointed it's on a jungle/island setting. I heard rumours they were going to do a Polar-type setting (with submarines, harbours, boats, helicopters and facilities n shit).

Two words: Map Editor. XD

Edit: The problem about Far Cry 2 are the design choices. What Far Cry 2 was capable of actually astonishes me since production. Things like fire propagation, day and night cycle, weather, immersion, growing trees, living and breathing wildlife, outstanding map editor (Literally puts Halo's Forge to shame), etc. that seemed very comparable to Crysis. But problems such as weapon jamming, respawning enemy outposts, malaria, repetitive missions, constant driving between safe houses proved to be an issue that bothered many players. I assure you I have played Far Cry since 2005, and I've developed many maps from the map editor, in which I actually won first place in a map making contest and earned myself a T-Shirt.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

I agree with your mentions of good things in Far Cry 2 and most of the problems you mentioned annoyed me as well, but I think nuisances like jamming weapons and malaria were actually good. And tbh before the repetitive game play put me off I spent so many hours in this game (about halfway through) that I could have played through other games like Modern Warfare 2 1-2 times already. So its biggest flaw is actually "worse" in other games.

Yeah, definitely agree ^.

I played Far Cry 2 for ages before any hint of repetition sunk in. The realism and amazing graphics ALONE were enough to keep me amused. Weapon jamming and malaria were actually good things which added more to the realism of running around a war torn African semi-arid jungle nation. The only thing I agree with (from your criticisms) is the way enemies would just respawn in certain outposts. And you would have no way of knowing if the way ahead was clear unless you actually got out your car and did a bit of scouting or just drove right through. I would've liked to see more politics/factions and alliances tied into the game - ie: if you side with with faction, then x amount of outposts/weapons dealers/other randomers become friendly and/or loyal to you.

And damn it, as soon as I hit F to remove a bullet from the palm of my hand in the first 5 minutes, shit, I was hooked. And it's great to see Far Cry 3 is adding more of that. But I hope the 'Press X now to take-down' instant-kill lolol move is just a gimmick for Consoles. And that on the PC you actually have to sneak up realistically and stab them in the back instead of pressing a key to auto-win.

Ultraviolet -- Yeah, I suppose there's something to that

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Ultraviolet -- Vrael
Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
