Well, considering it's THE real-time strategy game of record, how could it not make this list? StarCraft continues to be enormously popular today, almost ten years after it was released, especially in South Korea where professional gamers make more-than-decent livings just by playing. If you haven't experienced at least a bit of the three-way war between the Terrans, Protoss, and Zerg, you have probably been living under a rock.
The supremely compelling multiplayer is mostly due to the balance Blizzard has managed to achieve after the Brood Wars expansion and patches. Each race is distinct, a different style of play, but they don't overpower each other in weird ways. The replay feature elevates the game to a study; like when researching old chess moves, players can examine their opponents' strategies and confront their own weaknesses. Add in the campaign editor and you're set for replayability leading to an addiction of an unhealthy level. Give it one more round!
So here we have it. Starcraft is the 11th best game ever. Even tough it should of been #10 because it set new limits to real time stratedgy everywhere and its replay value is like, forever.
Praise, rejoice or cry.

A while ago, IGN had another top 100 games list, and starcraft was #7 on it... :P
But super mario bros and tetris are without a doubt two of the greatest games ever IMO.

IGN is not a very good website for... anything. It's disgusting how many ads they take which influences their horrendous reviews. If you want a good indication of which games are the highest rated go to a website like metacritic which shows the mean score of different websites.

actually ign shares the #1 video game site spot with gamespot. Ign is a very good site, and I don't feel they let their advertisers influence their ratings.
I expect sc2 to sell 3 million

Hey, anyone notice how Starcraft has only a relatively minor edge against WoW yet The Sims have an ungodly lead? What's up with that? Who the hell plays The Sims?
