So for the past few years I've been going to Community College and taking numerous general studies courses (mainly pre-reqs for college) and so I only have to go to college for the smallest time possible. I've worked numerous jobs from construction, butchering, home depot, etc. However I'm debating if I should even go to college.

My CC offers an AA program for computer network security/administration. I was wondering if anyone has any experience in this field or something like it and could tell me what the work is like? Would web development also be a good path?
I already have knowledge of how servers, lans, etc. are set up so it shouldn't be a huge challenge.

None.

If it's not challenging don't do it. You'll get bored quickly, and start to regret your choice.

A few of my friends work in that sort of field. They're really techy kind of guys and out of the three of them, only one enjoys his job. And that's only because he's a clever son of a bitch who went around setting up a server company for game hosting.

Pick something that you like, and something that will challenge you. You ultimately want to learn, so ideally let it not be something you already have knowledge on.

None.

wth is starcraft

From what I have seen, staying certified is infinitely more important than the type of degree associated with it. Either way, bachelors + certification is the best way. If you do get an AA in computer crap, at least get certified in a related field as well.

Or, if you want a lot of money, see if your school has an AA in Information Systems Management. You'll find it in the business department. Apparently its a growing field and has something to do with computers, but as far as I can tell people who get degrees in it end up troubleshooting employees' computers :awesome:

Well I only know the basics, and I've done a lot of shit so far in my short life. I've built roads, cut meat, helped people pick out toilets, bathtubs, and light fixtures, flipped burgers, bussed tables, made coffee. It's finally time for me to settle down. I was planning on doing something involving servers anyhow so I'd constantly be setting up LAN's, networks, etc.

The AA comes with whatever certification I choose to follow, whether it be Cisco, Microsoft, or Linux. My school has a degree in Database Management, which sounds similar to what you were describing.

That sounds right. All I know is that a lot of high profile companies are supposedly recruiting that field right now. And apparently the bachelors degree gets you like 50k starting. But...I heard all this from an evangelist, so take it with a grain of salt.
