It seems that whenever I leave my computer idle for long enough, long enough for a screensaver to take place (If I had one set/on at least) when I come back to it my computer freezes, the screen dies (monitor acts as if it's plugged in but not connected to the tower), then it comes back saying that my Nvidia card stopped and had just recovered. I recently updated it too. It all started when I was using photoshop a couple of days ago and was working with a 1900x1200 sized image and while I was using the program the screen would fail like I described before about 4 times while using photoshop. After a while I just gave up since it was giving me problems. I figured it was because I had a shitty graphics card and it wouldn't allow me to handle larger sized images in photoshop. I kinda feel like blaming the update. Meh.

Sounds like you configured your graphics card to shut down after idling for some time. Apparently the same time your screen saver kicks in.

Graphics cards are able to handle any size of photoshop image. The limitation is your main memory (ram + swap file).

Deinstalling the graphics driver and then installing the newest version of it will probably fix it. Maybe it'd even be enough to check your graphics driver menu for some setting responsible for this.

There's also the possibility it has something to do with the energy management (dunno the correct english term) settings accessible from your screen saver menu in Windows. You know, where you set hibernation and stand-by behaviors.

roll back the driver. You're on integrated so there's no point in using good drivers: you can't play anything which would benefit from them, and nVidia drivers rarely offer improvements in performance.

You should get a decent card to stick in there man, even if its a 5450 or something.

I don't know much about computer but I don't think that would be a smart thing for me to do, I mean with my bad CPU and RAM.

I guess I'll roll it back but first I want to wait a day or two to see if it still happens.

I recently was updating my NVidia drivers too, and the first time, supposedly a WHQL certified driver was making my computer crash. It was definitely the driver, though the driver did signifigantly lower my gfx temperatures. I updated to the newer beta version and it fixed the crashes, and I still get the lower temps.

On the note about drivers..

I just got a new laptop ... it's a Lenovo Y560
problem is is that I've heard people complain about the Lenovo drivers.. that they tend to not function very well when high performance is required, despite the graphix card itself (radeon 5730) being very good... they say that they uninstall the lenovo drivers altogether and download the newest ATI Drivers.

But how would I know which one's better?

Run a benchmark with both drivers. Also check the driver menus, browse the functions. Check the temperatures of your card during benchmarking.

Right click your desktop click the item that says something about nvidia or ati. That's the driver menu.

furmark will do pretty well to test stability and also your drivers (but just your graphics card, nothing else). You want something like 3dmark to do both cpu and gpu.

Driver menu is also called the control panel for the graphics. ATi is usually catalyst control center.
