Apparently GameStop was giving beta codes to people who pre order SC2. I have not yet pre ordered it but I was wondering, is that the only way to (legally) get SC2 BETA or better yet how did you all get yours?
I've been looking at the map editor for SC2 and now I REALLY want to test it.
Also, does the SC2 Galaxy editor come with the beta?
Thanks

Beta comes with the editor. Pre-ordering or winning a key is the only way to legally get a key (or buy one of ebay
)
Red classic.
"In short, their absurdities are so extreme that it is painful even to quote them."
Alright thanks, even though the beta closes very soon do you recommend I pre order the game to get the beta just for the galaxy editor? (is it worth it)
Thanks

Relatively ancient and inactive
It closed a few days ago. You can still try pre-ordering, but I doubt it'll work. You can always try torrents.

It's illegal to sell beta keys on ebay, or at least against the ToS, I figure that buying them should be illegal too.
I got a beta key, so legal editor for me
fuck you all
Well I guess that's too bad for me then :\

Er, you can download the client without a key, and use it to make and test your maps. Just google up "starcraft 2 beta client download", no key required, you just wouldn't be able to play with it online.
I doubt blizzard would have any problem with you doing this as you're using the editor to make content for their new game.

mike is right, its not illegal to download the game and editor then make a map and test it. That is what I have been doing while the beta is closed these few weeks. It may just be bots but its better than nothing.

Its still illegal but who cares... unfortunately blizzard "only" gave access to their client for the beta, to people who actually got accepted into beta. So the only way to download the client is to break the copy right laws on the beta. But I don't think blizzard will care/ ever find out. It was their dumb faults to give access to the editor without first providing credentials. That's what I was doing, before I actually did get a key.

I order you to forgive yourself!
I thought everyone got a beta in the last few weeks. Looks like I was wrong...

It's not "illegal", you're not modifying the client in any way, you can't login to the system, and so on.
If they really cared about you making maps and wanted to lock you out, they would of required a beta login before you could open the editor and test maps.
And when you think about it, they want a closed beta for online so the servers dont get overloaded, but for the editor keeping people away would only hurt the game in the end.

If you torrent startcaft 2 beta you will get the whole package, get the updates to it and you can use the editor. However you need a working a starcraft 2 beta key to play online. This torrent is of course illegal however... if you really want it, there ya go. Also i am sure if you can still pre order and get a key...

You know of course that they distribute the SC2 beta client through the bittorrent protocol themselves. Not using the official blizzard downloader just means you're using a different application to download the same thing, but it comes from the same tracker, same servers, same peers. You're not violating any EULAs, laws, or anything. Bittorrent is legal, despite what anyone else might tell you.
