In this altered melee scenario, there are teams of 2 players, and each teamplayer has some units they can't train and teammates complement each other. Communication is key to victory.

I've came up with this different gameplay mode a while ago. The general idea is to divide the number of available units between teamplayers and distribute the load of micro. Carry players typically have access to the main force while the support players have the more micro intensive and supporting units. But they can only make a whole by combining their available units, so communication between the players is important. The bases are similar to archon maps of SC2, and the map is accomodated with extra resources accordingly.
Also, carry and support players can mix and match their races to create more fun and variable meta.
~Terran Carry Available Units~ Barracks: Marines, Firebat Factory: Siege Tanks, Goliath Starport: Wraiths, Dropships Can build bunkers, can't build turrets
~Terran Support Available Units~ Barracks: Medic, Ghost Factory: Vultures Starport: Valkyries, Battlecruisers, Dropships Can't build bunkers, can build turrets
~Protoss Carry Available Units~ Gateway: Zealots, Dragoons Robotics: Shuttle Starport: Scouts, Arbiters Can't build photon cannons
~Protoss Support Available Units~ Gateway: High Templar, Dark Templar (Archon, Dark Archon) Robotics: Reavers, Observers, Shuttle Starport: Corsairs, Carriers Can build photon cannons
~Zerg Carry Available Units~ Zerglings, Hydralisks, Ultralisks, Scourge Can't build sunken and spore colonies
~Zerg Support Available Units~ Lurkers (no hydralisk-only upgrades), Queens, Mutalisks, Guardians, Devourers, Defilers Can build sunken and spore colonies
