Chain Reaction

This is a small, simple & fun, 6-player arena map i made to take a break from other projects, but due to some annoying bugs it took me much longer to make than i expected. :D

General information:

category: arena
players: 2-6
map size: 64x64
map tileset: space

Description:

At the beginning of the game, you select the game options, including ffa/teams, number of lives, and map vision. Once everything is set, the game begins!

You control a defiler with dark swarm (how new ). If you use swarm on empty ground, it creates a particle (archon) that will move around the map randomly. If you swarm on a particle, it will explode, blowing up all other particles around it, which also make new explosions, and so on - thus creating a chain reaction, which usually results in great series of explosions. :D There are also particles which have an explosion of a 2x radius (dark archons), take care with these!

Your objective is to destroy your opponents. The person who dies loses a life and respawns at one of the eight respawn locations (but can not respawn near other players). Last man/team standing (depending on settings) wins.

Oh and one of the most important things, do not blow your own self up.
:P

Just here for the pie

Bonkers. You made this in like, a week, Lol. It takes me about a year to finish a map (Hence why I never finished one to my content.) Great map, but why did you change it from crystals to moving archons? I thought the whole point was that you would set up a trap that you would set off if anyone were to come near. However, it could backfire by someone "de-fusing it" and thus possibly exploding you.

I am very slow too, i spent more hours per day on this map than I usually do. ^^

Lol, in that version i showed you the map was in its infant stages where i actually just tested the chain reaction effect. Anyways, crystals would have been a total fail. You can't, as you said 'set up a trap' with them, because others would notice them from a really large range and just blow them up. Actually, if the objects don't move, there is like no way to kill anyone. It is more fun this way, trust me. :P

I tested this and I must say, that it's one epic map. Especially when you fill the map with archons and then blow up 1/4 of the map with yourself and anyone who was unfortunate enough to be caught in the CHAIN REACTION!!! :D

Played it.
Fun but difficult. I won but the second half of the game I stayed in a corner blowing up particles around me going out occasionally to kill someone near me.

A Suggestion =O
Make it so that you don't die if your Defiler's Burrowed... XD
Although u'd probably have to change a lot of triggers to do that..
It'd make it more fun (altho some ppl might just turtle.. so it's NOT the best suggestion :C)

Here're some BETTER suggestions (after playing it)
Make extra explosions (at least for the charged particle) so ppl know the Radius of the explosion :P
I bet you can also make a version where you use Corsair's disruption web and use reavers in a smaller arena... And it'd be just as much fun :P

Not that much triggers. :D
But, as you answered it yourself, turtling is a great problem, even if you could be killed while burrowed and it would be just for hiding (that was how i first thought about it).

Extra explosions would not be a bad idea but if two charged particles blow up near each other, the mobile grids mess up completely. :(
So, eventually, players will not know what their radius is.

Lol? :P

Mobile grids? What would you need mobile grids for in a map like this?

I don't, but if i make more explosions for dark archons, like as UnholyUrine suggested, i would need them.

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless
[05:02 am]
Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value
[05:01 am]
Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Ultraviolet -- Vrael
Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort
[12:51 am]
Oh_Man -- definitely EUD

Vrael -- damn is that all EUD effects?
