Alright, so I am working on yet another website to expand a b.net clan to multiple other games, including halo, call of duty, etc.

Currently, I have a website, HTML/CSS that looks good, but that I have to update. Then I have a PHPBB3 forums. What I would like on the website is a login system, taking the username/password table from phpbb3 and using it on the main website. So you can log in on the main page, certain people can post news, and update the roster, etc. and then switch to the forums and be able to post etc., without having to log back in. Of course, if someone makes a custom forums, I can drop phpbb3.

To clarify I am not looking for scripting help on here, I am looking for someone who wants to help with this project and work with me on making the new site.
Of course, anyone willing to help, can get tech moderator status in the clan if they would like. Also, as another form of compensation, I can help them with graphics and anything else possible, just ask.

Thanks, sharf

Relatively ancient and inactive

It's unlikely that you'll find someone willing to devote their time to work on this with you. However, look around the phpbb3 modifications section and possibly forums for ways to integrate phpbb with another website. You're not the first one to want to do this. It'll take some work, but I think it can be done solo.

I know, but I'm just looking around anyway.

Good luck. You'll need it :P.

Thanks lol. The reason I ask is that I do not have the time, nor do I have the desire to learn what I need to do this...

I believe this is a rather simple mod to accomplish on phpBB3. Give me your FTP/MySQL login data and I'll set it up for you.

lol no offense but I don't just give that information away. Also, it's more than a mod...that I cannot find anywhere

...

If you don't give me your login data, how am I supposed to do it for you?

Also, I'm using "mod" to just mean "change to the code", not like the phpBB3 community uses it. I had forgotten it was used that way by them.

problem is in order to do what I want, you can't just take the mysql and change it. You need to use the pre-existing phpbb3 code and implement it into the new php pages I will be making. When I find someone willing to help, I will be buying a new hosting account, and domain, to keep it seperated from my other site, and will work with someone then. I know it requires more work than just logging in and changing some code.

Perhaps I need to explain more? I have the CSS I will make, based off the PSD I have created. From there, once i have the layout done, I will set up a phpbb3 board on the host, and then I need someone to convert the pages I made into php pages using the mysql login from phpbb3 and then work with me to create the rest of the site, such as adding in news post and roster editing. I want all of that to be done from the website, not the forum. I have a friend, A_of_s_t, I'm sure you've seen him around, who was too busy to help with this, but tried to help me implement something like this before. I am not modding phpbb3 into another site, I am simply sharing the login database

Either way, I'll need FTP access and possibly SQL access.

This post lists some irrelevant but critically important information first, briefly explains why it was important enough to warrant mention, and then describes a possible solution to your problem. If you don't give a flying crap about anything except the specific problem you came here to ask, then read the last paragraph (and the sentence after it). Otherwise, start reading from here.

So you're making a website. You've made sure of the following, right?
  • Your code complies with web standards.
  • Your code complies with best practices. (E.x. avoiding TABLE-based layouts in favor of floated DIVs; never using spacer GIFs (no, not even once); etc.)
  • Your code is cross-browser. (IE7+, FF3.5+, Chrome, Opera, and Safari)
  • You use semantic HTML.
  • Your code is accessible. (This is easy. You can add content that is only read aloud by screen readers, but not shown (or vice versa) using CSS @media types.)
  • All JavaScript is unobtrusive. (Meaning your site can run if JS is disabled, without leaving behind a ton of non-functional UI controls and meaning that your JS is self-contained -- no event handlers in the HTML itself.)
  • All JavaScript is encapsulated.

I know that that little checklist isn't completely relevant. Your problem is that you're developing a website and need server-side help, but because the whole point of the server-side code is to deliver client-side code to your users, I'm just listing these off to ensure that your server-side effort isn't wasted on flawed client-side code.

And now we get to the relevant bits. I know that PHP can connect to SQL databases, and obviously, it can read from these databases. So my question to you is, why not just write PHP to loop through the phpBB database and output everything it finds? Essentially, you'd be dumping the entire database onto a page, allowing you to see the structure. That alone (assuming you know how to work with databases at all) should be quite a bit more than enough for you to manipulate the phpBB database as needed.

'Course, I've no clue if phpBB would let you write to its databases, let alone add new columns to its tables, etc..

Ok so...yeah...I know very little about databasing...just enough to set up phpbb3. I don't want to take phpbb3 and implement it into the site....I want someone to work with me, and created a php/mysql site that allows log in and posting/page updates, that shares the username/login database from phpbb3...

Also @ TassadarZeratul: I would of course give FTP and SQL when needed, but it's not just a half hour of access kind of thing...I know that much.

As far as I know, this should always be possible.

Please report errors in the Staredit.Network forum.

mmhmm. Because I control the databse, and therefor have complete access to set what ever permissions I want.
