iscriptx.bin is unused (so says DoA).
Of course Iscriptx.bin is used, otherwise where else would list for iscript.bin Ids would be stored?
Why would blizzard put extra file in the archive even as small as 40kb that is not
USED?
None.

Uh, they are stored in iscript.bin... Do you even know who I or DoA are? Didn't think so. Iscriptx.bin is totally unreferenced by the exe, and there are many unused files in the MPQ.... Please get your facts straight before being an ass.

Logical Fallacy Fail.
I don't know why they would put an extra file in the archive -- they kept an unused .txt file in the mpq as well, labeled: temp.yxy (they mispelled txt).

Blizzard did, why? No idea. There are also unused units/grps/wireframes (can be placed in SCMdraft). Also, there are unused buttons and bullets+sounds.
The things in the editor are often placed with the scout-grp and the most of them causes the game to crash after looking at it / starting the map.
Especially in modding: those unused things are good as replacement, because you cannot add completly new units or others things (please correct me if I'm wrong here. www.broodwar.de says that)
By the fact those units cannot be placed in the normal Staredit, they are unused. But never the less they appears: unused files.

There are tons of unused files and entries in Starcraft. Why? Expandability, oversight, forgetfulness, or design changes where ignoring the leftover files/code is more practical than taking time to remove them. When your product is constantly evolving, the time to delete each and every little bit of old material adds up. Thus, it isn't cost-effective to constantly trim when those leftovers don't affect the end-product or take up much space.
I guess you are right, didn't think of these...
MPQ does have loads of bonus stuff that can be used, they probably had it for some expansion and removed things from the game to balance races or such. But what's weird about iscriptx.bin, that if as you say its used as a backup (unused), then why its script differs from Iscript.bin, that way, it can't be opened by ICECC? It means this file is something else than a version of iscript.bin, no? Also anybody knows what are these ~unknown00003bla files inside the mpqs?
None.
Iscriptx.bin just can't be opened because it an older version of the format. From what I can see, it has some things in common with the iscript.bin from StarDat.mpq, which I think IceCC may also be unable to open.
None.
