So, If you want a really good computer for, lets say...playing games. What would be the best things to get for it? Like, for graphics, sound, etc.?
As far as playing games right now, most games are GPU bound, and only take advantage of two cores, really. So, your money is better off going into a higher end video card, rather than a higher end CPU. Also, 2gb is good, 4gb is a bit better, especially if you multitask a lot. As far as everything else goes for computers, most of isn't relevant to game performance. This includes harddrive, monitor, power supply, cd/dvd drive, motherboard, cooling, soundcard, case, etc.

As far as sound goes, motherboards come with onboard sound, but it is not the same quality as sound cards. For 95% of people, it's fine, but for people with a more sophisicated taste, it could be a good investment. But then again, you would want speakers to go along with the sound card, which ends up costing more money. For a lot of people, the increase of quality is not worh the money paid for new soundcards and speakers.

So yeah, a budget would be nice ;)

Yay Intel and Nvidia! Boo AMD and ATI! Nice guide btw but ur missing some stuff :P (i demand a video card section!)

Thats not very nice... ATi used to my favourite graphics card brand... then they got bought out by AMD...
Same with Alienware. A good company, a larger, shittier company comes along and buys it. Alienware is now gayzored!

The sword and the faith

I'm beginning work on this again.

Edit:
Corrected a lot of mistakes, misspellings, and other junk. Also began some color coding and re-did some sizes. Added lines for section breaks. More coming soon.

I know they're difference variations of RAM, they should still be under the RAM section.

There won't be, that section hasn't even been written yet.

See above.

Of course but to do what exactly? Both transfer data sure. Some motherboards do offer letting a USB be a boot device too. But you didn't specify what it is you want to know.

Disc drives read CDs, right? What I was wondering was that on your first post it said Disc Drives are required, but you could read data with USB drives, right?

TheHappy115 -- Yea, thats the issue. Thanks. It would also explain why my deleted map couldn't get updated. Updated version reduced collision on units (only thing added) since was dodging game (players collide with each other)

Ultraviolet -- If so, I'd just focus on getting them on scmscx.com and then you can link to that in the showcase thread for your maps

Ultraviolet -- I can't upload my EUD maps, I think the DLDB has some issue with handling them. Are you trying to upload EUD maps?

TheHappy115 -- Its been awhile but ever since I requested one of the Maps I posted to be deleted since I couldn't delete it myself (or update it), I haven't been able to upload any more maps. Any reason for that?
