With the help of my latest program I made this map: http://www.staredit.net/files/1892/

Now it's pretty easy for me or anyone else to make a map using the mouse on a 128x128 map, but for only 1 player unfortunately. Still I think there's great potential in this. What map ideas do you guys have that would involve the mouse?

Since it's already 1 player you can pretty much suggest anything that is known such as keypress EUDs, anything involving slope, etc.

What kind of spells did you have in mind?

Not sure yet, but there will be a range limit, of course. You've already done all the grunt work; the rest is free sailing for me.

Can't thank you enough.

Oh, and you should add a note at the top:
DOES NOT WORK FOR MACS!

OK, already started my RPG.

It wouldn't be too hard to extend this concept to 256x256, but I don't want to take the time.

Therefore, I will be doing it on the original 128x128.

Single-player RPG; you have a character who's a mage, and it's point-and-press casting. As in, press A to cast Fireball and Fireball is cast wherever your mouse is currently. I'll be using DDS, EUD health detection, etc.

Look for the Production thread in the next few days here. As soon as I have enough terrain for some screenshots, it'll be going up.

Good to see at least one other person using it.

I'd start on a map with it if I can get a pretty good and original idea for one, other than just a hero/shooter who shoots with the mouse.

Hrm... a 1 screen (center on location repeatedly) fps would be cool. Could use 7 different color shades, and make it look 3D. Walk with key press detection(WASD). Kinda like doom; Just an idea... It would be very complicated.

Or Galaga, where your ship follows the X coordinate of your mouse.

Thanks for the map, it opens up a lot of possibilities!

No kidding. I can think of at least five different single player maps that could use this, most based off of other video gaming techniques in my experience.

don't suppose there is a way to detect a click that is relatively easy is there? I was kind of thinking along the lines of click if unit is in the location move it to storage then when clicking again you could move it out of storage to the current location. Good job with the triggers and all the hard work :)

Right- and left-click detection doesn't work currently. Morphling figured out the proper memory conditions, but it doesn't seem to work.

Sorry.

Well, I abandoned the RPG concept. Felt like everything I was doing was too cliched. So I started another project where a wraith follows your mouse when you hold one key and he fires wherever your mouse is when you press another key. You have to guide him through a field of asteroids and shoot down aliens. The project is coming along pretty well so far, except for a few problems. First, I can't get my asteroids to move properly once they spawn. I've randomized 16 spawn locations using the built-in location grid, and I randomized the targets that the various spawns correspond with, but some of the asteroids fail to move once they spawn.

Also, the map file is 1,703 KB, mostly due to having over 30,000 triggers. I can't exactly upload it to SEN right now for people to examine my triggers and find out where I went wrong - besides, who's gonna go over 30,000 triggers?

Instead, I'm considering posting the two MacroTriggers files that I created to manufacture these 30,000 triggers and pray that someone can figure out what the problem is from that.

So... yeah...

Just here for the pie

Upload it to a file hosting site such as Mediafire.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
