Okay well first I'm trying to have added abilities for zerg and protoss
having zerg heal faster
and protoss recharge shields faster

the map im working on is a melee with 4 different abilities for each race any help suggestions for more abilities would be appreciated ^^

Not possible without a complicated system involving EUDs, and the max shields and HP would be 100.

Okay and is there any way to change any upgrades or units using just triggers, if not

Is there anyway to have one race be faster than all the others or would you have to slow everyone else down to make it seem faster?

Zany is ignoring the option of Modding, where all these are possible. The problem with modding is that you're essentially creating a separate version of Starcraft, and the only way you can play it with other people is if you all have the mod.

uh ya im kinda running out of ideas for the races :omfg:

Striker, one ability could be invincibility for one race for a moment, every few seconds. Another would be energy being reset to max constantly or every few seconds.

Okay thanks, and also i forgot but isn't there a way to cloak units and could you cloak in entire races units?

You can add armor for zerg carapace or protoss shields.
Other than that it might be a good idea to use very small health/shield values and smaller damages respectively, because it takes much less time to regenerate to full then.
Abilities like psi storm, plague and irradiate would be overpowered, however.

About the cloaking: Many Terran bio units and some zerg can be cloaked, but that's far from an entire race.

no you can't cloak all their units w/o arbs but there are some maps like Tiny starcraft and others that have race specific stuff.

I think some of them are like:
Race's units/buildings cost hardly anything.
Race's units/buildings create time is super low
Race gets double units when they make a unit (with hero units) (but they don't take food so meh...)
You can have offscreen things help you to make the races more unique as well (if you aren't making it random...because if so then that kind of goes out the windows). You could start zerg players off with a spawning pool or make it so when they make a pool they also get a hydra den offscreen. and when their pool dies the hydra den goes along with it.

I had made a warcraft 3 map a long time ago and some of the "different" things in it were that the orcs (terrans) used bunekrs instead of supply depots as actual farms through triggers.
Undead (zerg) used creep/spore/sunken colonies as farms instead of overlords through triggers.

You could even include heros for each race that have spells that help that actual race. Like a protoss hero that sets unit shields to 100% like a shield battery. Or a terran hero that spawns spider mines or something. Maybe a zerg hero with some tunnel/nydus/transport spell to move units around. I think that would be nifty.

I was thinking of some stuff you can do with units that morph or change and you could do some neat switches. For example make it so when a siege tank goes into siege mode it turns into a really weak mutalisk. And when that mutalisk morphs into a guardian it transforms back into a tank. You would probably have to move the tanks to a spot offscreen when they transform instead of removing them because players could harass this to heal their tanks for free...well...unless you make it cost money to morph into a guardian. Either way it would be cool to have semi-flying tanks =]

thanks for the ideas. This was how i was going to have it

1.Have everyone either pick a race or go random.
2.Then for each race there would be 3 to 4 different abilities these abilities would also be randomized
3.If a person was on random i would have a trigger check what race they were and give an ability accordingly
So ya i need some more ideas that won't change properties as armor for all zerg or all protoss shields

  • Conditions

  • Switch 1 is set
  • Current Player has at least 1 "Protoss Nexus"
  • Actions

  • Modify all units energy; at "Anywhere"; for Player 1; to 100%
  • wait 3000 mili-seconds
  • preserve trigger

    you could still go the hero route and have them specific to the races. that may be out of scope for your game though i guess

    And Pears im going with your idea for heroes for some of them and others will have added abilities, like for zerg one of them is
    they get an income, not sure if i want it to increase over time or not.

    and i would like some more ideas on for heroes i should use

    I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

    You could use Player 9-12. That players won't attack. But you can move their units with orders (player can control their units with orders; no ai scripts for p9-12 possible).
    But I guess in your case (I don't really know your case), the answer is NO because that players can't run scripts.

    a human is a human and a comp is a comp. I don't thin kthere is any way around that.

    I guess you could make the map 6 human slots and 2 computer slots...with the computer slots being there in case 6 players aren't present in the game. so if there were four humans, one comp would ally each to team to make it a six player game. It would be wierd to make AI for computer heros though...having them run in situation where they would die with no real gain, etc.

    I would just make it 8 player slots man and let players host the games they want. If they want to 1v1 or 3v3 then let them set it up themselves. If you're looking for things for players to do to slow them down then you can use stuff for the neutral player that they have to kill...

    for that warcraft map i did, it was 8 players so i didn't have a player to use for creeps to block super fast expansion. So what i did was use the protoss temple building, name it "Rocks" and place it over the resourcse at the expansions so that would at least slow them down a bit.

    As for heros you can have a Zerg hero with the ability to sense the other players' heros. Do this by pinging the other hero locations when this spell is cast. Somewhat helpful. Or you can make heros help OTHER races to make players more prone to have inter-racial...er...teamwork :D

    there are the 'common' spells you can use such as a bunch of scouts spawn for a blizzard effect, or slowing/stunning effets on enemy players/heros by giving their units to player 12 temporarily.

    play games with heros in them and steal! i didn't have too be too innovative (besides making warcraft spells work in starcraft) but you could just look at otehr games for spell ideas.

    With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort
