A lot better balance than the previous version, as now I find myself using more than just the little circular spread shot thingies. Though I'm a bit disturbed at how weak those darn Super Monkey things are, considering their cost. The only value for them is for saving space when money is no longer an issue, since they are still technically the most powerful tower type.
By the way, here's some strategies for long-game playing (if you intend to play past round 60 on a given track):
When the late game comes, and you start having more money than 10k on a regular basis, you're gonna wanna switch strategies a bit:
By the way, here's some strategies for long-game playing (if you intend to play past round 60 on a given track):
- Regular pin throwers are actually quite good. Get as many as you can stacked upon each stretch of straight path facing the oncoming direction and get them upgraded to full as soon as you can. Set them to target Last so they always fire straight down the path. They'll hit a lot of bloons in sequence, and they're fairly cheap to boot!
- Rocket launchers work best when you can exploit their long range to hit densely compact stuff multiple times. Remember they have a wide splash range, so quantity stops being an issue to them as long as the bloons linger within their range in dense fields for long periods. They work wonders on the third track, for example. Get them upgraded straight to missiles when they stop being effective in their level 1 form. Always set them to target Strongest.
- Rocket launchers also work wonders against those big blimp fuckers when fully upgraded. You'll need to gain enough levels for that, first. When this period starts to come around, you can simply pack as many of them as possible right up front at the start of each lane.
- Planes, spreading tack shooters, glue, and boomerangs. All fucking useless. Don't waste your time with them.
- GET FARMS ASAP! I cannot stress this enough. Often you'll need to play a given track a few times to find the optimal approach to using the absolute minimum cost of towers you can get away with for the first 30-40 rounds. A good policy is to build just enough that you can kill all bloons before they can reach the halfway point, then invest in a farm. Get your farms upgraded to Republics (lol) before building new farms. I did a little math on this, and I found that you're not going to get any return in your investments with these for at least 10 rounds, so make sure you're not struggling before you invest in them.
When the late game comes, and you start having more money than 10k on a regular basis, you're gonna wanna switch strategies a bit:
- Upgrade your Republics to Research Labs (lol) ASAP. Start maxing out as much of your free space as is available with these. Also ASAP.
- Your tower constitution should consist of about 50% flame spread towers (those pink spread-fire tack towers at full upgrade; requires some leveling), 30% big rocket launchers (the yellow ones that hurt blimps extra), and an even spread of Radio towers, Wizards (especially when upgraded to their ultimate form; requires some leveling first), Ice towers with that arctic wind debuff (also needs leveling), and maybe some Glue towers for the remainder.
- When your income starts getting high and your space low, start cannibalizing your weaker towers to make room for Super Monkeys. Avoid cannibalizing your Radio towers, Ice towers, and Wizards, though.
- Prioritize upgrading existing Super Monkeys over placing new ones. Always set them to target Strong. Try to keep as many of your big rocket launcher towers around as you can, as you still want some stopping power against those large blimps.
- If it looks like you're getting overwhelmed (and sooner or later, you will!), use your Radio tower's special attack to wipe the screen.
So yeah. Lots of fun. I'm at level 31 right (lol @ leveling up in a defense game) after blowing the better portion of yesterday doing nothing but neurotically killing bloons. Pretty pathetic, really. Remember that shit I was talking about with 'good' games? Here ya go.
