Map making SC vs Map making WC3

I've played Warcraft 3 a few times. It is really fun. Some of the maps are really in depth especially those DotA maps that have like over gazillion units to choose from. When I checked the map editing, it was very confusing and complicated to play around with.

My Questions:
1. Have any of you tried to make any maps on wc3?
2. If so, how deep is the learning curve compared to just Staredit?
3. What are some benefits to the wc3 editor that could've/should've been on SC editing?
5. Do do you think sc2 editing will be as compared to wc3 or SC:BW. (Will it be simple, complicated, efficient, etc?
4. What are your feelings about map editors from Starcraft and warcraft3 coming to play sc2 together?
6. Did you notice that I switched questions 4 and 5?

None.

Answering the question (Not serious)
1. Yes.
2. If SC2 map editor is as complicated as WC3's, I quit mapping for ever.
3. Nothing to download, possibly more location, sprite, string. The ability to change ALL units properties, from skin to attack speed, and even move speed and portait. The best advantages form my opinion is the ability to make as much diffrnet unit, even with the exact same skin, as you want and the Heroes that makes top notch and fun RPGs.
5. It will be as complex as WC:3's if not more, but not as complicated, i am sure blizzard will make it more user-friendly like SC's. Maybe will they put features there is in SCMDraft?
4. What ???
6. Not before reading the question.

Serious part
Seriously, I think WC3's editor is great, harder to understand and not made for the newbie's comprehension, but it prevents newbs from editing shits and having bunches of boring maps being hosted like on BW.
It WILL take a great deal of time, even for the best SC mapper, to understand World Editor (WC3's editor), and therefore will take more time and concept map for each feature.

Overall I'd say SC's editor is for players that map for fun and do not have lots of time to waste in learning, or for people that really loves SC's feeling.

WC3's editor if for people that doesn't care for learning time and are good with this kind of program. The mapers taht want the ultimate Game making tool, because yea, World Editor is not a mapping tool anymore, its a Game Making tool.

Hahaha, of course, SCM Draft "features" are simply just allowing the user to use SC's full potential, SC2 already has so much ability that the editor doesn't really need that.

1) Nope

2) As as I know the SC editor only allows us to edit variables from a list of commands whereas the WC3 editor resembles more like real programming. Learning how to use these editors is one thing, but using what you know to make playable and fun custom maps is what counts (the latter is what defines a map maker.)

3) Well you can't really compare the two as they've been made in different times with different intents and technology. SC was the first of its kind to incorporate some form of making your own custom games. The same could be said for just about... anything.

5) I believe this was one of the issues addressed in one of the SC2 Q&A's. Think they said something like SC2's editor being able to do anything the SC or even WC3 editors can.

4) I will say that I do appreciate SC's limited starcraft map making abilities as it really forces me to think outside of the box. This forces me to use my creative and problem solving abilities to produce a fine custom map. So to me, Starcraft map making isn't just about making maps; it's also about training my brain to analytically solve problems which can only help me in real life. For instance in my map Mini-Game Party, I challenged myself to somehow cram 128 quality mini-games into one map. Coming up with the game ideas themselves is one thing, but to get it all within a Starcraft map's limit is another.
So as for your question, I guess you can say that I will be excited to see what SC2's map editor has to offer me. I may take a look into wc3's editor beforehand if i have time.

6) Argh you tricked me! :hurr:

1) Yes.
2) Higher, but not too hard. Bring exactly 0 includes bunkers, at most 0 doesn't. Ahhh!! I actually learned how by completely copying the triggers from a BETA map to a Warcraft III vanilla map. However, I believe that some things are much, much easier to catch on to than others; there was definitely a lot of emphasis on the custom unit trees and item shops, which led to a lot of tower defenses and arenas/dota, but those are admittably warcraft III's best maps..
3) Some benefits = EVERYTHING. The warcraft III editor is 10x more capable than the starcraft editor.
4) I believe the sc2 editor will be so capable that they will have shortcuts or basic modes to do everything in a less capable way to ease people into it, since it's definitely a huge selling point that they will invest time in.
5) I am looking forward to sc2 editor having all the features of warcraft III editor, but it should definitely be laid out differently. You couldn't even drag regions (what they call locations) to make them bigger, for example. Also, for something as simple as getting money from killing creeps, it takes a while to figure out how to do it. There are problems with it being too hard to dive in and learn, but it won't be too hard for them to fix that this time around with the new editor.
6) Nope.

But really, I loved warcraft III worldedit, but I just didn't like warcraft III. I made a few maps for warcraft III because the editor was so awesome to work with, but the enjoyment of playing the map after was really not there like it is in all the starcraft maps I've made. I'm looking forward to a game as good as starcraft with an editor as good as warcraft III's :)

This game you are talking about is SC2, hopefully...

sounds like moisture control is often a pressing concern in your city
