"Regular unit Hero" questions

I'm currently reading "How to Write a Starcraft MOD, A Quick and Easy Tutorial For Beginners" and have a question:
Is there a way to change the portrait of a non-SC-campaign hero (like Gui Montag) and still keep the original unit (Firebat) unchanged without any significant modding effort?

Edit: Changed topic name to better represent my question(s)

In DatEdit, select Gui Montag and open the "Graphics" tab. There is an option to change the portrait. Be sure to select an "idle" portrait. (The idle portraits are labeled as such.)

Thanks, I found it.
What about sounds then? Any way to make Gui Montag use the Raynor sound files and make the Firebat still use it's own sounds for instance?
I know one can replace sounds in the sound directory with a MPQ, but that's not what I want since you can't target Gui Montag specifically.

You can change what sounds a unit uses in DatEdit.

Heroes are seperate unit IDs from normal units. Anything DAT-related can be customized without affecting the main unit. They share the same Iscript.bin and GRP, however, so if you wanted to change any animations or graphics without affecting the main unit you'd need to replace something else and redirect the DAT entries to what you replaced.

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
