The weirdest twist of fate ever. Just when I was at the height of my drawing skills, it vanished! Kaput. Dried up. Gone.

I'm not sure how but 3 days after I last drew, I just came up with an ugly sketch. I then tried over 9000 times to make a decent sketch circle and it comes out ugly. I then tried to trace another work of mine and it came up horrible. Can someone explain to me, what's going on! I even use focus lines to guide me but that too just stopped working!

To elaborate; it's like learning how to ride a bike, then landing head first on the pavement, 5 minutes after learning.
Or painting the mona lisa one day, and then forgetting how to use the brush in the first place.

Sigh, I don't want to pay money for a course just to get the artist feel again. It's just so weird how once a talent I discovered 3 years ago just escapes me just like this. Anyone have any real suggestions on how I can get the feel again. Cause I'm too far in it to just drop out just like that.

Also, who gave you the sciencedamn right to say, who makes art. Unless your the God of art then...

JordanN, Syphon's just being a silly nanny. I know you can draw =) All you have to do is believe in yourself and it'll come back =)

There's nothing contradictory in the statement "never be able to draw" you simply have no artistic talent whatsoever.

Syphon, dude, totally uncalled for. Your attitude is pathetic.

I would say Syphon's being harsh on him, but if you had been keeping track of Jordan's history over the last couple of years, you would see that he has either deliberately or indirectly pissed off and offended everyone here in some way. Syphon's not reacting that way for no reason.

As for my serious advice (Dare I try giving some), I have 2 suggestions:

1) Get a book on drawing, or take a course, or just force yourself to sit down and work until you recover. I would say that you certainly need improvement. Your "painting the mona lisa and forgetting how to use the brush" comment is extremely laughable given the context. I wouldn't dare say something like that. Maybe this is the chance you need to redefine your abilities.

2) Or... take a break. When I was working on the cartoon (or some other past project) sometimes I would get so sick of it that I just had to stop, because I hated everything I was doing. Staying away from it for a few weeks would help.

On Doodan's second suggestion, it does sound reasonable.
Though perhaps a rather different situation, I found that, back when I actualy tried to draw, rather than doodle, I would occasionaly hit a wall for a couple weeks, during which I could not at all motivate myself to draw... and then suddenly I'd start producing things much better than I had before such recessions, afterwards.
The same might apply here.

Regardless of past transgressions on Jordan's part, a moderator should have higher standards of conduct.

I'm not reacting this way because he pissed me off, I'm being serious, and sincere, he needs to find a better hobby, because he has no artistic talent. Go look through the "post original artwork" thread and judge for yourself.

If he was like "I'm trying to get better at drawing blah blah blah" I'd give him advice, but he's not, he's claiming to have a talent for something he doesn't, and it's insulting to people who actually know how to draw.

Yea thanks except I need to get the feel first.

1.I do have a book on drawing that I read every day non-stop. I even try to read all the books on art at my library. 2.As mentioned, I've been forcing myself over 9000 times since this incident began but it still isn't what I could accomplish before.
3. Not really. Can you paint a mona lisa without a brush (in it's context)?
4. Prehaps so but at the same time would drag me away from my main point.
That's what brought me to forget.
It's the opposite to me.

Also, for that post about that girl I drew, it was more of an experiment on what it would it be like if I started drawing in a more "manga"-esque tone. So of course, the first result will be as ugly as sin but it was a dramatic change that I liked. See, notice how I admit to that fault but not to the others Syphon mentioned. The thing about this new style to me is that drawing the torso is a bitch. According to the book I was reading, the preferred method is making an open triangle and then adding shoulders then filling the rest in. Which is quite confusing . So I guess my mentality didn't like this and just cut it off, just like that. And all the other books also teach the same thing or something close to it.

Edit: Also I chose "manga" styled drawing because to me, it gave the drawing more definition then you would see (excluding Disney) in average cartoons.
