I just got done building my own rig and although it is still a big work in progress I was wondering what games will be able to be put onto it.
-StarCraft (includes Brood War)
-Diablo 2 (includes Expansion)
-Quake 3 Arena
-2Moons
These are the only ones I have questions on for right now... Anyone know the definite answers to weather these work or not?
None.
Im on Vista Ultimate and Starcraft and warcraft3 works fine

Let me show you how to hump without making love.
Vista .exe files can be run on different settings and stuff. Such as run program in compatibility mode for... Windows XP, Windows 2000, etc.
I have a lot of backwater games on my PC.
None.

Even if they don't work (highly unlikely), you can use a virtual machine to play them with an old OS.
tits
Well It may just be his computer but,Snipe's vista after sp1 didn't like starcraft,warcraft3,and some other game.He could only install BF2 and stuff like that.

Thats funny because I still can't get BF2 to work on my Vista but I can do Starcraft and Warcraft3 even after sp1

I can say from personal experience that those first 3 you mentioned work on any Windows version from at least Windows 98 to Vista (though Diablo 2 requires patching to at least a certain version before you can run it on Vista).
None.
The first three work for sure, well at least Diablo 1 does... so I'm just assuming 2 does.
I have NEVER had compatibility mode work the way you'd want it too.
Starcraft sometimes for me has graphics errors, but only about 20% of the time and requires a system reboot... but the graphics errors are still playable.
Quake 3 runs smooth

Yeah, like the Windows version compatibility modes mess up WinMPQ in Vista, for example (WinMPQ works fine without it enabled, btw). So don't try those unless you have a reason to (Windows XP, 2000, 98, etc. compatibility modes).

Which is why I use StyleXP to simulate Vista

What's the point? Vista isn't just about the appearance; that is simply the most obvious thing. The reason to even use Aero in Vista isn't all about the appearance anyway. Much of it has to do with improving window handling, like reducing window redraws by making it so the graphical contents aren't "lost" simply because a window covered it up temporarily.

I like that as well... I don't use it anymore though...

It almost seems like I have to take my chances with StarCraft... That doesn't seem like fun..

No, that's not what I meant. I was saying the compatibility modes (in XP or Vista) aren't always beneficial (sometimes they are, though). I was just giving an example of a program that runs fine without them, but then kind of freaks out if you enable "Windows XP compatibility mode" (or 98, 2000, etc. - any of the Windows version compatibility modes). For this reason, you should only try the compatibility modes if something isn't working. My point is basically that you should not assume a specific program needs the compatibility modes just because it is old; try it first since some programs were designed better and didn't do certain things that would make them incompatible.
Syphon learned this the hard way with WinMPQ when he told Vista to run it in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode and had it almost completely tie up his cpu for several minutes when he clicked the Options menu in WinMPQ.
(I told him to try it without it and it worked fine)
