I got the idea from the SEN of WCIII map making. Basically, it's a section where you post not resources per se, but just things you made, perhaps interactive with the DLDB in some aspects. I'm mostly thinking ahead to SCII with this one, but this would be useful for SC as well: Created a nice GRP file? Modding effect? A terrain you're really proud of but don't want to let other people use it before you release your map? That kind of stuff. It's a really nifty section on the site I showed, and I think it'll really come handy when SCII comes out. Again, Terraining should be a large attraction - I think that terraining will be a huge part in making campaigns and RPG's. Skins, custom models.. these two in particular should share aspects with the DLDB, since they might eventually be open to download and personal use once you finished creating them. Basically, pretty much the same thing that site has as an Art Gallery.

I'm just throwing this out there - I know the administrators have a ton of other things to work for, and SCII is a long way away, so there's plenty of time.

So... what is it? A place for images?

I believe what you are explaining is already in every member's profile. If you go to someone's or your own profile and click the Contributions tab. It will display submitted maps, authored/managed maps, tutorials, and donations. Maybe later on submitted files from the DLDB that the user is an Author of or submitted could go on there. Another suggesting would be to have a separate box on the same page for links to other sites to download stuff.

Yeah, I think a customizable user page might work about the same, except people don't always check it.

Basically. Map previews, things you created.. showing off what you did before you release it. It mixes with the dldb in terms of models and skins, and overlaps there. It's kind of an add-on to the DLDB that works almost the same, but not necessarily downloadable, and primarily for feedback.

Well.. this kind of gathers the contributions from members, I guess, but again, this isn't really for maps (except demo maps).

We live in a society.

These functions are already served by Map Production threads, Map Shocase threads, the DLDB description you can input, etc.

I suppose, but as I said, I'm thinking ahead to SCII with this feature for the most part. WCIII maps have a ton of customizable things, and people create a lot of things for other people to use in maps. It makes more sense to add this to the DLDB. SCII mapping will be similar to modding - and you don't have seperate forums for GRP's, IceCC edits, Icons created, etc. SCII will probably require more then modding does now, and there will be more for it. There would be models (spell, doodad, unit..), skins, spell icons, triggered systems, spells, and maybe something even WCIII doesn't have. It wouldn't make sense to put forums for that.

Hmmm... in that regards, maybe grouping all files together and having tags categorize it wasn't a smart idea :)
Maybe a seperated production DB of unfinished maps, sounds, images, etc would be nice. Orginially, senv5 dldb had a Create mode and a Play mode.

However... to show images, spells, whatever just to "show off" wouldn't be the point of any file database... rather, like moose said, production topics. Suggesting a new script to replace production topics is a whole different idea.

Hmm... Well, I suppose something to replace production topics is similar to what I'm suggesting. As I said, though, production topics make sense if there are few production... thingies (maps, mods is all we have now). We'd have maybe seven or so different types of production.. thingies. I think of it, more then a show-off section, as a feedback section integrated with the DLDB. A feedback section WOULD also replace production threads.

You mean the comments and reviews that are there for every file? :dontgetit:

Production + Feedback, not just feedback :| .

Plus, as I said originally, terrain. You won't want to upload a map to show people your terrain - feedback on terrain has to be done on a screenshot basis (or should be).

You don't really upload production maps into the dldb though... the dldb could easily replace showcase topics though... having a feedback (bug reporting system and more) is something I've contemplated... though it could be used for production as well... Assuming there's a map to be downloaded.

Like a separate section in the DLDB, for in production. With a checkbox, you could list your file to the public (basic DLDB) as well as keep your production area for feedback and bug reports.

Hmmmmm, perhaps it is time to break away from forums.
