Summary: Star Control 2: The Ur-Quan Masters

Mid 1990s game regarded to be one of the best space-games ever made. Includes exploration and mining of planets (ala Mass Effect 2, but with a much bigger galaxy), difficult fighting, negotiating with alien races to form alliances, solving puzzles and a great storyline.

I still haven't finished it.

I really like it. I'm excited to play.

Now that I've played it a bit I remember. I've definitely played Star Control 2 quite far and probably even finished it, but I just can't remember anymore. lol

Still, playing it again feels good, especially with these voices. I love how the Spathi speak and call me Hunam. First night I played it until sun rose and I realized I need to sleep.

Also Spathi Eluder is my favorite ship. His speed + BUTT missiles is good against almost everything. Those annoying Slylandro drones can't even hit me.

I think I killed Fwiffo and his ship. It has all those spheres on it, right?

I keep getting killed by some ship named Ilwrath whenever I go to the space station orbiting Earth

Is that the first got? I one shot him after I destroyed Fwiffo's ship thingy.

It sounds like you found the Spathi homeworld, Nude. Soon enough you'll start to get hints about where the Slylandro probes are coming from, allowing you to track them to their source. Hint: If you befriend the Spathi then try to check on them regularly.

If Fwiffo gets killed (and yes that was his ship, Kame ), it shouldn't be a problem as you can meet the Spathi and they will eventually sell you ships despite them technically being part of the Ur-Quan Hierarchy. As for the Ur-Quan, you've probably realised from the hints in game (Earth's starbase not having seen a Hierarchy resupply ship in eight years, the Spathi and Ilwrath's withdrawal from Sol etc.) that they have their own mysterious problems.

Zycorax: At the start, go to Pluto and you'll find an alien who you can threaten or be nice to in order to make him join your fleet. Also, mine Io and Mercury (if you can avoid the firestorms on the surface) for radioactives to give to the Starbase Commander, and investigate the moonbase on Luna. When the Ilwrath ship attacks its cloaking device is crippled and it has minimal crew. Use your Earthling Cruiser against it, stay away from its front and hit it with homing missiles. It should go down in one or two hits.

Thanks. Yeah I've found it and killed the "evil teddybears" for them and they seemed very happy about it.
Still I have yet to find another space station where I can sell my minerals and buy equipment/crew.
It's annoying to have to fly back all the time. Or lets say it's against my sense of efficiency.

The Melnorme will replenish your fuel for a price, and you can find them at any supergiant star, but there is nowhere else you can recruit crew as far as I know. I can only advise you take some extra crew modules and landers. I can't remember very well but I think you can redistribute crew from your flagship to any ships that get damaged in combat.

I actually love this game, and it is helping me figure out a couple of things for something I want to write.

I can now go through quasispace! I have no idea where all but 2 of the portals lead though. Luckily, I found one that's fairly close to Sol so I'll explore them after the Shofixty contact me and give me cheap crew.

What do the capsules that life forms drop do?

You can either save and then go through all of them taking note of where you get transported to, or just use this

You can sell them to the Melnorme which gives you credits (not RU) and then buy info, tech and fuel from for these credits from them.

Wing: Once the Commander contacts you about the Shofixti causing your crew prices to drop, you can get an interesting reaction from the Yehat if you put a Shofixti ship in your fleet. I expect you already know this though.

I'm also guessing that people have found out by now that the Spathi are just as unreliable to you as allies, as they were to the Ur-Quan. Buy as many ships from them as you need as soon as you formally ally with them, as Spathi Eluders are useful ships throughout the game. I've found they beat the following ships (though combat in the game as a rule is difficult):

Umgah Drone (circle it while firing BUTTs)
Slylandro Probe (run away and BUTT it to death)
Ur-Quan Dreadnought (tricky, but draw the fighters away from it, then dodge and weave around the front of it to avoid the fusion blasts, while firing BUTTs)
VUX Intruder (circle it and fire, but don't get too close)
Druuge Mauler (can be difficult, but try to get close enough to circle it)

It struggles against the Yehat Terminator, Kohr-Ah Marauder, Ilwrath Avenger, and Mycon Podship.
