That is wishful thinking, nothing more.

Quote from ClansAreForGays
Well most people like to point out that the president doesn't have too much law-making power, and is really just the person we look up to. The point of making that man a respectable black person is that the potential delinquants will have a positive role-model.
I wouldn't say delinquents. I would say that Obama could be a great role model for many, a great barrier breaker, and I would definitely imply his color would influence the effects of his presidency.

Race matters.

Nov 27 2007, 7:27 am MillenniumArmy Post #23

Actually, now that I think about it, my reason for obama being a good role model because of his heritage might be flawed.

Many African Americans do not consider Obama to be an African American; they just see him as an African. Obama's dad came from Morocco (i think?) and his mom is white. And his mom's side came from a family of slave owners... Unlike the African Americans we see today, Obama did not come from a history of slavery, segregation, or racial discrimination, and because of this many Blacks in America do not regard him as a true African American. Still, he could (and would) be a great role model and perhaps even a fine president, but we'll just see how he does later on when compared with the other democrats.

Race matters.

America is a much more sexist than racist country, but I do agree. Both race and sex do matter, that is why I am so surprised the two leading democratic nominees are an african american and a woman.

One more thing

Why does everyone like Ron Paul? I mean, he's from the state of Texas! Yea... TEXAS! And everyone knows that the state of Texas is the incarnation of evil, home to many rednecks, cowboys (no pun intended), republicans, right wingers, and christians right? Yea, we don't like those damn conservatives or christians and our world would do so much better without them right? Texas has committed so many horrible things like banning gay marriage! Sure the state of Texas made some great football players like LaDanian Tomilson and Drews Brees and good football teams like the Dallas Cowboys, but other than that, Texas blows! Yea, why vote for anyone from that horrible state of Texas? Oh and not to mention, this is the state GEORGE W BUSH came from!!

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/national-primary.html

The democrats have Obama and Hilary at the top and the Republicans have.. who? No one that great.

If the Democrats put up Hilary, the Republicans will win no matter who they put up. If it comes down to a choice between Obama and Guiliani it'll be a choice between a naive idiot who will fold under pressure and a psychotic madman who would make Bush's wars seem trite in comparison.

Perhaps Bush will propose a new amendment that would allow foreigners (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to run for President. There's a Republican you can vote for!

And unfortunately someone like Ron Paul will never be a viable candidate. His policy is to cut the funding for everything.

If I was American I would probably vote for Clinton, you guys need a socialist health care system.

If anyone should run for president, it should be Bill Clinton again.

I cannot vote for Clinton just because of her Health Care idea. She is arrogant.
I am not going to settle for "a lesser of two evils", which is basically what the democrats are. I won't vote for Kuscinich, Obama or Edwards. I have to find a green party candidate..
Compared to other countries, the democrats in America are pretty moderate->conservative. The republicans would be fascists (they are). The States need a new system of elections. It is a subject I'm studying quite a bit to encourage and implement change. The two party system in the USA is dealing great damage.

The health care system is what I find to be best in Canada. My grandma recently had a stroke or a heart attack and she collapsed one day. They rushed her to the hospital and had extensive surgeory and she stayed in the hospital for like a whole month. She's much better now, but we're lucky that she's living in Canada (for a while my grandparents were truly torn between whether to live in America or Canada). Had she lived here in America, she'd have no insurance and the bill for her insurance would be enormous. Even selling our house wouldn't be able to cover her expenses.

The issue with America's two-party system is that it disallows any moderate policies that fall between the Republican and Democrat standpoints. This is probably why America has one of the lowest voter turnouts in industrialized nations.

While both health care systems have their benefits, I truly believe that Socialist systems are better then private ones. The only issue with the Canadian and other socialist systems is that you have extensive waits for some procedures (ie: hip surgery). But waiting is much better then having to spend absurd amounts of money in an emergency situation when you probably aren't thinking clearly anyway.

I like to think that America has this huge fear of Socialism, and the population contains beliefs that Socialism is interchangeable with Communism. Many people are narrow-minded when they're ignorant of facts.

America has the lowest voter turnouts because:

1) You have to register to vote
2) It's optional
3) People don't want to wait in line for hours and hours
4) For states like California, they might not even get a chance to express their vote because since they're on the west coast, the other states would probably have their results already turned in (because of time zones), and perhaps a candidate might've already gotten the majority. This can easily destroy a voter's incentive to vote.

Interestingly though, Canada has every single one of those points (and number 4 is JUST as big as a problem). Yet Canada's voter turnout is considerably higher. I still think it is the people's mindset :P, but the reason why can certainly be debated.

And a million other reasons such as a lack of education, lack of caring, the horrible primary system, etc.

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless
[05:02 am]
Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value
[05:01 am]
Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Ultraviolet -- Vrael
Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort
[2024-5-06. : 12:51 am]
Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
